I have two K2's one is a perma build and the other is for experiments. If I buy a custom skin for one, can I use it on both in the new system, or just the specific mech I bought it on? Also, what if I buy a skin, sell the mech I bought it on for some reason, if I rebuy it will I have the same skin ready to go?

"Patterns are now available to unlock per BattleMech type. A type is defined as: Commando; Spider; Jenner; Raven; Cicada; Hunchback; Centurion; Dragon; Catapult; Cataphract; Awesome; Stalker; Atlas. Each type of pattern has a one-time unlock cost per Mech type.

Players also have the option of applying a single use pattern. Single use applications are permanent until a change is made by the player."

Quote taken.. so by that, it means, if you Unlock a pattern its for all the variants of the type, or you can pay a lower price for a 1 time paint over.

Also, colors and patterns are different. Colors are universal. Patterns are Chassis based. (unless you go for thr 1 time cost which is just for that mech)

So for your example:

you buy 3 colors for you K-2's. Those are also available for all other mechs of any chassis.

you buy a single pattern (not the single mech option). That pattern is available for both of your K-2's, your C1,C4, and your A1. (if you own them). That pattern is NOT available for your Centurions.

Can't beat it. Throw down for Woodland once, and you can apply it to any of your Catapults. Maybe sometimes make up an Airborne Ranger green camo, and then other times go for some loud blue and white urban camo.
