Some advanced gamers told me LRM-Atlas is useless. Are they right?

It is more useless then an Atlas that is carrying a full loadout for, say, brawling. They're meant to get up close, soak up damage, and punch holes in 'mechs. You may get some kills yourself, but you aren't also sponging damage for your teammates, who have to absorb that same damage themselves. It's just a case of a sub-optimal loadout, like fitting a Raven 3L with full electronic suites instead of the classic ML/Streak doom machine.
