When we introduced CryEngine 3.4 some of the HDR values got out of balance, we discussed with the art team and it's on their plate to look at re-balancing the HDR. Bottom line it will get looked at though currently no ETA.

This needs to be high priority. Whoever shoots first can blind their opponent nearly indefinitely using this bug...

Not ideal.

I started a suggestion on it here, perhaps comment/like it and it will get seen?

This happens whenever there are bright objects on the screen, and then the engine reacts by making the screen really dark and then back to normal. It's worst on Forest Colony, but also is noticeable on River City. It happens when you fire your own weapons too, all it needs is a bright object.

Happens a lot with your own weapon fire if the target mech comes in to hug you - at range it seems only to be enemy fire that causes the issue

This bug seems to have gotten worse on Forest Colony in the last patch. It was bad a long time ago, but seemed fixed for a while.

Not sure why they are having so much trouble with the lighting on that map.

I have seen this as well, but never has my screen gone "totally black". I have found that it is often related to taking fire and the current, usually high end, Heat level of my Mech. The two often seem to coincide (or seem to anyways fwiw)

Perhaps some screen snaps are in order, to really show the "total blackout" scenario, so we may determine an interim fix for ourselves.

Im nvidia 570 - with very high gamma, its just so frustration to basically become blind in the middle of a fight, and launching lrms from my atlas while on 2/2 zoom blinding me is just not cool

I have a 570, no issues, I mostly run in Thermal, maybe that's why.

yes, Thermal is the only way to override this issue.

When you get blinded, u need to switch on thermal to see something.

i find it very annoying but i gave up. it has been long time the issue is there, they seem to not consider it a priority at all.

I raised the issue a few other times and the "community" didn t pay that much attention to it, so i guess is an issue bothering only a vast minority here.

I am not expect any solution to it anytime soon. It is a shame something that should be easy to fix sch as light effects on a map.. are just left there to die.

This appears to be a problem with 3.4, and not simply MWO's usage of it.
I would suggest disabling it, as it kind of screws up how everything looks, although it is most apparent when it actually blinds you.
