I think I've worn a tux... three times in my life.

I think, in rentals, I've paid somewhere between $60 and $150.

A similar tux would cost somewhere in the market of $600.

It is more cost effective (assuming no more tuxes!) to rent than to buy. This is why places like The Men's Warehouse offer tux rentals. They know not everyone needs to own a tux. They'd probably like it, and they do sell them, but not everyone has the means at all times to just purchase one.

PGI let's people purchase patterns for 1 time use, or for permanent unlock on a mech type. They know you may not have the means at the moment to "own" a pattern, but would still like to look snazzy. BAM! One time use.

Maybe you only want to use a camo on the 1 mech you really play, and the rest just collect dust in the bays. You've finally found the ONE mech you love. The 1 time fee is for you.

Why in the 9 hells did PGI not extend this logic to colors?

They made the system far better for people like me, who want to own lots of mechs that are blinged, and worse for people like you, who only get two mechs, and maybe give one of those a really sweet paintjob.

Note that the colors can be applied to all your mechs though, whereas patterns cannot. I suppose it depends how many mechs you have.
