Sorry, the Mech is called Septicemia or in Short "Sept". My fault. The other clans called at first "Pariah". Its one of three new OmniMech-Designs of the Coyotes. The Other are the Cephalus (25 Tons) and the Osteon (85 Tons).

Realistically, if we are talking light mechs, either a locust, a commando, or a javelin

Excellent choices - but remember, you will be able to start with a 'Mech of any weight class, so no need to restrict yourself to lights. You might not start with the "best" heavy or assault (most likely 60 and 80 tons, respectively), but bigger is not always better.

just because this is REALLY annoying me. no clan mechs yet. and no designs developed after 3050. so no fafnir. no cougars no daishis. at least not yet. and odds no fafnirs ever. cause that is 26 years into the future. pick a solid IS design. that is what you might use.

Interesting thought on watching this thread... considering there will be no ClanMechs to pilot at game launch (according to PGI), does that mean people posting they want to play a ClanMech won't be seen in game? :( Because they won't get a ClanMech? Man, this might lower the munchkinism factor of MWO massively! :(

To be fair, the question is: "What 'mech would you like to start with?"

Not: "What 'mech would you like to start with that will be in the game at launch?"

People are allowed to like 'mechs other than just the little stuff. ^_^

I'm also going to assume that the starter 'Mechs are going to be the cheap, widely available machines as opposed to top-of-the-line, house specific units everyone is praying for. With that in mind, here's what I'll put in the garage...probably.

Light - Wasp (Hopefully included even though it's an Unseen). Lower speed + Jump Jets is better for urban recon, and hits harder than many other lights in it's class.

Medium - Blackjack. AC/2's can shred scout 'Mechs, and 4 medium lasers are nothing to laugh at. Also, jump capable ^_^.

Heavy - Ostroc. Not sure what it is about this 'Mech, I just really enjoy piloting one. Pretty nimble, can take a decent amount of punishment, and give it right back. Great introduction to what Heavies can do.

Assault - Victor. Ever had an 80-ton 'Mech land behind you and put an AC/20 round in your back? It hurts. A LOT.

You know, I think that I'd prefer not having a choice...

I am serious when I say this. I think the game would be made all the more interesting if we were all randomly given 'mechs based on faction preferences. Of course, I think that it would be fair to be able to narrow the randomization down to various 'mech roles (As in - picking a role would limit the randomization down to faction preferred 'mechs for that role, but stlll makes it random. Just as an example, a Draconis Combine player might want to select a Fire Support 'mech, and the computer could randomly give you a Whitworth, a Catapult, a Longbow, an Archer, or a 'mech that is not normally found in the Draconis Combine, albeit at a lower probability)

This.

I definitely agree on beginnig with a house oriented light mech. If it is f2p everyone could be able to pay to start with a heavier mech ;-) Would be also ok for me to start with an wasp or hornet, but in this case I would like to have PVE first.

Also, this.

Though, I would have suggested:
 • House-oriented mediums rather than lights (as the former - medium 'Mechs - are supposed to be the workhorses of most military forces) for those who start as faction players.
 • For those who start as mercs, either House-oriented (if the corps is strongly aligned with a particular House) or randomly-selected from the overall list of starters (if the corps has weak or no ties to any House) mediums.
 • For those who start as lone wolves, mediums randomly-selected from the overall list of starters.
At least, that's my personal take on how it should work...

-----

Barring the above, I would like to start in a Marauder.

Specifically:
MAD-1MDb
MAD-1Rb
MAD-3BC
MAD-5F

I would also prefer Marauder. Perhaps Marauder II.

I would start in a cyclops. They would look so awsome after a FD update.

Of all the mechs shown, I would go with either the dragon or warhammer. Those are in my favorite weight class range, maybe the tempest. I would probably go with the dragon first. Although, the PPC is my favorite weapon. I'm looking forward to seeing what other mechs will be announced. I greatly understand the need for scout and medium mechs; personally, my play style focuses on hitting with every shot and at all ranges, so that's why I go for the heavy/assualt range of mechs. Although, I dislike the lack of speed and agility of assualt mechs.

I personally would love to start with the Dragon and find a few to have a Lance of them because any Lance that can use them effectively will be a hell of a day for any one who opposes them and aint ready for a beating ^_^ but thats just my belief haha :(

I guess I should have been more explicite, but I did want people to be realistic about their starting mechs, which is why I said "Think of mechs that are cheap for their weight class."

But most of these answers are pretty good anyways.

The starter mech should be a medium mech because of it's easy piloting and can bring more weopons that a newbie can practice shooting. Plus, has enough armor to take a few hits and if sold will not rack up a ton of money to abuse any kind of game economy system.

This thread is full of people who are going to be rather miffed on release day.

Personally, I'd love to start in either a Grand Dragon (the original, DRG-1G, that trades the AC for a PPC and a medium laser), a Hunchback, or perhaps an Orion.
