Hold down "Right Shift"

Press "Home" (highlights all the text)

Press "Delete" (backspace works too - removes all the text!)

Problem solved in instances where you need to remove it all.

I thought we all agreed DDR unjamming mechanics were infuriating

This is a game for MechWarriors, not backspacing, ambivalent little kids! Man-up and stand behind your spelling errors and nonsensical sentences, PGI is preparing you for the rough times ahead when the Clans hit and we are going to need to show commitment. Thank you PGI for the backspace nerf, I say remove it from the keymap completely! Probably the best change in this patch.

Seriously. Sometimes in matches I type things out and by the end decide I shouldn't say them. Why must I now hit the backspace key once for every character I want to delete?

Bring back Backspace autofire.

I blame this on ECM.... Never mind, this time it's not ECM's fault.

it's there...it just has a 25% chance of jamming, and you have to play a super secret minigame buried in some Dev post... under some section, to unjam it.

Just hit escape twice, once to open the quit game/cancel menu, another to get out of that menu. It closes any chat box you had open whilst you were typing that message you didn't want to send. It's a simple work around until the sorely needed Backspace buff is implemented.

I read the leaked memo:

Project Lead: Guys, we've had lot's of complaints that premades on voice comms are still losing matches

Team: No! But we've made it so easy for them???

Project Lead:Yes, it's true... a couple of PUGs managed to get together enough people that werent in trial mechs to take down a premade group... and they did it with.... text chat!

Team Member 1: That can't be true, text chat is awful!

Project Lead: That's what we thought, but someone got around the fact text disappears after 8 seconds and that you can't move while typing... we need to do something, STAT!

Team Member 2: We could nerf ENTER?

Team Member 1: No, no, no, that would be too obvious. Those PUGs are already getting wise too us...

Team Member 3: How about if we made it so text disappeared whenever someone dies?

Project Lead: No, no, we already do that

Team Member 2: Make chat text blue and unreadable on certain maps?

Team Member 3: 2, keep up, we just did that!

Team Member 1: How about we nerf Backspace? Make it take 3 seconds per character you want deleted?

Project Lead: Brilliant, make it so!

Team Member 2: Couldn't we just, you know... balance the game? Put a premade on each team so voip isn't such an advantage?

Team Member 1, Team Member 3, Project Lead: Shut up you!

Oh please, if this was that kind of game, you wouldnt need a 3rd party application to do even the most basic of communications. Thank you, come again.

When I started playing in September, it took me a grand total of four drops to realize that, in order to perform the very best one can in this game, it is to play with a dedicated team of pilots, or at the very least, to not play by myself. I can't imagine why this is so hard for some people to understand.

This^

Sure it's a pain that Backspace doesn't work like it use to, but it's still easy enough to erase the entire text.

Maybe there will be an advanced comms module that will allow continuous backspace? :D

I've always used "Shift+Home, Delete" to delete entire messages. It's always been much faster than holding down Backspace. I didn't even know this issue existed until a friend encountered it. :D

The workaround I'm using is Ctrl + A to hotload my Backspace before I fire it.
