I said I'd come back for the patch and I did. Played three quick matches. Pugged, took out my sort of brand new STK-5M and my old standby D-DC.
HUGE FPS improvement!!! MAJOR WIN!!! It was almost like playing a whole new game. Went from an average FPS of 14 to 40.
I'm very very happy about this. It was hands down my greatest issue with MWO so far (All my other whining really pales in comparison, honest).
First game, my team decided to rambo it through the cave on Forest Colony, in a long exposed chain of mechs. Suffice to say that we got smashed, even though I managed to take out two of enemy mechs. Eh, PUGs. I was busy setting up groups and testing my weapons for the first 30 seconds, when I looked up the fail train had already left the station. Only one to actually even say anything was a guy who whined about PUGs the end of the match. Very useful that.
Second game I decided to play PUGboss on Frozen City, we held in F5 and F6. Teammate said other side has premades because he recognized some names (no confirmation), managed to take out 4 of them for no loss. Then we got PPC sniped down pretty fast, one by one. It was quite amazing. Nice to see the PPC being used as intended. I didn't expect that and actually ignored the PPC mechs entirely. Endscreen was a wall of gold, so if I managed to PUGboss my way to 4 kills against an accidental 4+4 sync then I consider that a feather in my cap.
Third game was Caustic. Our team was pretty organized, held along caldera edge and watched for flanking. CTF and Stalker tried to flank and were fried by some impressive focus fire. From there the other team seemed to fall apart and trickled over the caldera edge in ones. Match was won 7-1 with a cap because a Cicada ran around annoying people with an AC2.
And then I had to go out shopping for groceries. Back now and writing this post.
I saw much better play from everyone out there and my piloting was improved for obvious reasons. I cannot begin to state the importance of having someone play PUGboss. Granted I'm not always in the mood but when a I do, my team at least puts up a good fight, at a minimum. There was also a lot more chat after that first silent drop. People communicated, pointed out likely mech locations based on fire, etc etc. It was heartening.
So in conclusion I'm very impressed with this patch. And I'll be asking some of the friends who bounced off of MWO a few months ago to give it another shot.

Thanks For The Performance Fixes Pgi And The Player Buff
