I'd like to see a split matchmaking system in the future. Personally i think the matchmaking system isnt too bad right now but it obviously needs modification and the devs have said they are anyway i know.

I'd like to see something a kin to the way matchmaking is done in Ghost Recon Online.

In that, you have beginner's matchmaking along side the normal one. Basically, people under level 5 are grouped together. In MWO you could make it so that people piloting trial mechs or people with less than 25 or so rounds under their belt would join the beginners matchmaking.
