One bandaid solution i've seen suggested for the lack of in game coms would be pre-loaded chat messages.
In particular what i'm imagining would be a script triggered by by the team chat key, that then bound the function keys to preloaded messages, pressing enter would then terminate the script until team chat was pressed again.
[] denotes a key press.
Example: [y][F1][a][enter] would result in: team chat:"Focus Fire on a", simply pressing [F1] in game wouldn't do anything.
If we got really fancy [a],[b],[c], etc. when pressed immediately after a function key could be bound to "Alpha" "Bravo" "Charlie", etc
[y][F2][e][enter] could result in team chat: "Capture e" "Cap e" "Capture Epsilon", etc
"Fall Back" "Return to base", and other phrases could be bound as well.
something like [y][2][F4][d][1][enter] could result in "2 enemy in d1" [y][F4][d][1][enter] would then just say "enemy in d1"
By initiating the script upon opening chat it would prevent it from interfering with the in game uses of keys or custom key bindings.
It wouldn't have to be Function keys either, other options could be num pad keys, or some of the special function keys on the board that would be in easy reach of your right hand.
If this saw wide spread use I think this would increase communication, increase teamwork, and decrease getting blown to smithereens while trying to tell your team where the enemy are. It could also help some of our non-english-as-a-first-language players play with english speaking players more easily.
What do you think? Would anyone use this? Is anyone willing to help me create such a thing?
What preloaded phrases would you want?
