Still Hoping For Significant Balance Changes

Some heat and PPC tweaks, crit hit points... small potatoes.

You tweak things, but I'd love to see a few bold changes even if they were only for a weekend long balance test. (add an MOTD so you don't drive players away. Or add a new game mode which tests balance changes)

You certainly must have good statistics on what drives game outcomes... the servers are in-house. Please, look at your data and hammer down some of those peaks and lift up some of those valleys.

And you sure there are peaks and valleys in their statistics?

Yea the matchmaker is shady at best I had 6 games today

2 games were short drops missing 1 mech

4 games were me my nice painted mech and rookies who dont know how to play.

Right now you drop with the winners who sweep 8/0 or your drop with the losers who win 8/0.

Frankly, given the wealth of different weapon loadouts out there, I don't think balance requires massive, bold changes for most weapons. Yes, there are a few like the small lasers that need work, but most weapons are in a pretty good place.

We're pretty far along with the current system to make any bigger changes, I think. Not everyone might agree with it, but from what I've gathered it's close to the developers' vision of mech combat.
Then again, we might see some changes that'll cause big ripples when the Clans come knocking...

What sort of balance issues are you talking about?

Phase 3 is live in the background now. What this means is, you are NOT being matched up according to skill based matching, however the servers are logging data that will enable this to begin in two weeks time.

I think weapons are in a good place for the most part. The only thing that's out of whack that needs to be reigned in is the matchmaker.

Each of our own personal experiences are skewed and we chant loudly about the injustices on the forums. That is why I would like to see them take a data-driven approach from internal statistics.

My experience is that I can run the crappiest of ECM mechs - the Cicada 3M and win or I can drop with a Heavy getting triple the damage of the Cicada plus several kills and nearly always loose. But my experiences are not universal which is why I'd love for them to ignore me and see what really is overpowered right now by skimming through the numbers.

Even with another $25 in MC to spend on this game I am going to sit on the sidelines and wait for something significant.

Besides the match maker...(It's not in yet) what else? Better to give specifics on grievances and extrapolate on what you think is wrong and suggestions to fix them.

The Cicada is nowhere near the worst ECM mech....

Agreed. I want to see ECM, LRM and SSRM placed under the balancing microscope.

I agree, that honor would have to go to the Spider ECM mech. I love my Cicadas. All of them. Not just the ECM variant. They all run completely different.

  • COM-2D

  • AS7-D-DC
  • CDA-3M
  • RVN-3L
  • COM-2D
  • SDR-5D
It used to be that the Raven was far and away the best but with the movement code partially fixed, you can damage them easily. A properly piloted DC is the best asset to the team.

Someone has no clue about BattleTech.

Everything but match making is currently balanced, just wait till we have more mechs to chose from, and if you are QQing about unblanced weapons now, just wait till Clan tech shows up.

The RVN-3L didn't all of a sudden become bad. Compared to the Cicada, it is only 5 tons and 30 pts of armor lighter, yet still carries a higher firepower capacity (my alpha is around 35pts). I cannot get my Cicada up to 30+pts of damage without considerable sacrifice. I believe the issue has more to do with popularity; the good RVN players are being diluted by all the bad ones. So, you run into more bad pilots than good.
