Is this a phishing scam? I just received an email from this website saying:

Welcome to MechWarrior Online Support. Please follow the link below to choose a password, and we will log you in right away.

[removed]mwo.zendesk.com/verification/email/[removed]

I didn't click on it, and neither should you, unless this is some third party that handles your support tickets or something?

If that is the case, you might want to give them a mwomercs domain so it doesn't immediately look like they are trying to get my (muddled and broken) password.

If it led to the MWO site at all it would be mwomercs.com

So, yes, it's most definitely a phishing attempt.

EDIT: Just did a password reset on myself. The reset link has an mwomercs domain name. So this is confirmed as a phishing attempt.

I also checked the e-mail verification I received when I first signed up on the website. That had an mwomercs domain name as well.

And so it has begun! It was all but inevitable. I hope PGI can stay on top of this kinda stuff. Be careful everyone. And expect more to show up in the future, it's sorry fact of today's world. Lucky enough right now there is nothing for them to access other than the email address for spam. Make sure you use a unique password so if you do fall victim your other acccounts will be safe. And all them other safey tips your probably bored of hearing about. Thanks for giving us a heads up dude.

zendesk is a very popular commercial helpdesk and ticket tracking service - many companies large and small use thier hosted software to handel customer support ticketing and response management.

Of course - thats not to say someone hasnt setup a fake account with zendesk to try and bait MWO players as the game nears launch, but its a relatively an expensive service ($1000 per registered support agent login per month the last time I checked) so I'd be surprised at a scammer spending that kind of money upfront.

Someone from the dev/support team could probably confirm if its legit or not.

Well we don't have confimation that it really is a zendesk domain. Could just be the display text and not the actual imbedded url.

For the non-techies and anyone else who can't translate my lack of caffeine induced ramblings, you can show zendesk.com as a blue underlined link and yet have it actually take you to givemeurmoney.tu

Well, The fact of the matter remains. If your not sure do not click it. I Loved it in wow when sites would try and troll you and get your info. Makes me wonder how many people fall for it daily though. a little common sense goes a long way. Either way good luck to you all and have fun. =)

I know many of you may know what to look for. But, many do not. I played WoW for many years and heard of people getting e-mails from what they thought were from Blizzard, WoW's creater. They would open the e-mail, click the link and see what looked like Blizzards main site were you logged in. They then tried to log in. They did not know it was to late. because with in seconds of you entering your info someone on the other side was watching and used your info to access your account. They first change your Password. then they enter the game and stripped your characters and mailed the gold to a someone else.

The MMORPGs I have played used a policy that you never replied to any of there e-mails. It even stated it in any e-mails they sent you. You sent questions in game and they would answer it when they could.

Zendesk.com is a site for help desk software. You may want to contact them and let them know somebody is running a phising scam using their domain.

I highly doubt anyone is paying $1000. Zendesk can easily track this back to the owner.

Looks legit to me. Not a phishing scam. MWO Devs may be using this software as a knowledge tracker.
