Lets say u suffer a crit hit and your ammo blows up, is the amount of internal damage by ammo explosion calculate-able or random, and how do u calculate it? In other words, the damage u suffer when an AMS/machine gun ammo blows, is it the same as when an SRM ammo blows?

It's the entire potential damage of the remaining ammo.
For instance, if you have 100 rounds of LRM ammo left it's 100(missiles left)*1.8(dmg per missile)=180 dmg.

by potential damage, u seem to imply the damage is still random (like anywhere betweem 0-180 damage)?
in that case, how is ammo reduced/used up. Is there a specific pattern? For eg. u have 1 LRM20 and 3 LRM ammo in the left hand, left leg, right leg respecitvely. When u fire 1 time of LRMs, does it reduce 7, 7, 6 missiles from LH, LL, RL ammos respectively, or does it exhaust all ammo from 1 spot and then goes on to the next?

It's the damage that can be done by the remaining ammo.
It's simply (remaining shots) x (damage per shot). There's no randomness in it, use up more ammo and the explosion is smaller.
Ammo is depleted in the order described here: http://mwomercs.com/...mmo-being-used/

I wonder if MWO treats a ton of ammo as a 10 HP item which'll only explode once all of it's 10HP are eaten, or if it's like tabletop, where any hit to an ammo location could spark an explosion. Based on pure speculation and how seldom my ammo explodes I'd think it's the former - anyone know for sure?
If it's the former it would lead to the strange situation where it's be safer to have 2 tons of ammo in a leg compared to just one, as laser crit ticks would get spread over two items instead of getting focused on just one. Safer with more ammo?

from what i have read before, it seems to be in favour of the former
