Viability on Assaults with eyebeam lasers? Extreme. Blind all your foes as you swoop in for the hug of death.

Still, TK'ing is unacceptable no matter the "reason"

Ofcourse if you can fit a MPL on your mech, do that instead. I use them as hole-fillers on lights without good torso twist.

I still do run flamers because they are good for DPS control on enemy mechs.
They dont cause allot of heat, but they do keep most mechs from cooling down too quickly (even one can do this). In this way I can prevent other mechs from spamming lasers at me.
further more, they blind the S*t out of other mechs and even do a little damage as well. Are they best weapon in the world? No.. they are as much a weapon as a Tag is.. they are a utility. :3 they have a time and a place
Edit: I still run flamers too, I have a spider that runs two medium pulse lasers and a flamer. Sure i could run another medium laser, but a flammer has so many uses i cant bring myself to get rid of it.

Also, equip JJs, jump and fire at the ground while spinning, and be badass looking
