From the initial Trailer they show an Atlas getting dropped in via some sort of aircraft,

and in the background as I post this I see a drop-ship in the game art.

Has PGI said anything about spawn in mechanics? Will we see a cool intro cinematic to matches showing our Custom Mech being dropped into battle like that video, or will it be more of everyone spawns on opposite sides of the map and a timer counts down to match start?

I think an intro cinematic would be great for seeing your own custom Mech "in action" outside of the Mech Lab.. I also think since you only get one life per match, it would be more fitting than the traditional "Spawn in, beep beep beep, game on!" that you get with most of today's titles.

Anyway, has there been any word on this?

Certain game types will have limited respawn, I believe they called it "Dropship Mode"

Hopefully it's part of an economy mechanic for the houses to send mechs around the star map or not be able to...

I am HOPING that the dropship mechanic will come into play in a smart way. The ability for an attacking team to all 'drop' in would be an amazing feature. Alternatively, I would also like to not have to drop if as a team during an attack. Possibly have a team vote feature on whether to drop in at the start of an attack/defend mission for cinematic awesomeness. Or possibly even have the 'drop in' be a cinematic for the attackers at the beginning of the match before it even begins?

I'm hoping the drop ships play a economic and resource roll for Merc Corps. I'd love to see them be a feature, something you can almost call a home.

So far PGI said that they would offer a Dropship Mode game where you have 4 mechs to spawn one after another if you get eventually destroyed until last man standing wins.

If other MechWarrior games are any indication, DropShips will be your character's transportation to/from the mission area, but probably won't effect gameplay much.

And if they really follow the games, enemy dropships will be targets to destroy, and will be armed to the teeth to the point where you need a company to take them on.

Friendly dropships you have to defend will be crippled, unpowered, and have tissue thin armor. :)

The "cinematic drop" would definitely raise the atmospere before each match to the heavens. But instead of only watching your Mech fall from the skies like in MW4, it would be more intense if you could experience the whole drop from inside your Mech´s cockpit, watching your own hands preparing all the systems to be online and feeling all the shaking caused by turbulence... Just like in the teaser.

From what info we have so far the only time they have mentioned Dropships is for the "Dropship Mode" of play when each player will have 4 mechs.

You will have 3 reserve mechs in addition to your starting mech and the reserve mechs will "hot drop" down like in the trailer when you need a new mech.

The beginning of a match should be exactly like the beginning of Halo ODST, in my opinion. (well, this would be for a misdrop actually)

For single life matches I don't think they need dropping at all. It would get annoying to have to watch your mech drop before every single match.

I am intrigued by dropship mode though. It would be fun to spawn in your cockpit in a dropship after each death and then drop a new mech in.

I was thinking the opposite. If you could respawn and had to drop after every death it would be annoying but for a single life per 15 to 20 minute match it would add to immersion.

This is a Mech Simulator, not an arcade title. Immersion is pretty paramount IMO.

A dropship would make a good base/objective/resupply point. Especialy since they have the full mech service bays. It would be fun to capture leopards.

Well I'd assume that you can control your drop to some extent, so it's not like you're sitting there doing nothing on respawn.

They mentioned in the Devv threads a Battle type that was Dropship... Each pilot has up to 3 mechs in his hanger.. You drop in your first one.. When it dies you spawn and enter in your next and then your 3rd.. Battle ends when one side wins.. Now if we actually drop into the battlefield was left as an unknown.. but man that would be cool:)
