A problem exist with ripping off jumpjets in that jumpjets weigh more for specific class then others. Namely the heavier you are the higher weight your jump jets. If you are going to rip off a jump jet, you may not want to immediately sell it, so I propose labeling jumpjets by their class in inventory as to not cross weight divisions magically.

Example:

jumpjet(light) x5
jumpjet(med) x3
jumpjet(heavy) x3
jumpjet(assault) x2

Also with the case of engines, if someone wants to downgrade an engine, they may wish to keep their old engine instead of selling it for a reduced price. Therefore engines should be allowed as inventory. Engines are cross compatible as it is cannon that they were ripped out of old cars when the Innersphere lost its ability to produce them.

However: Due to the shape and structural design of different mechs, Ferro Fiber Armor and endo steel should not be able to be kept as inventory as mech shaping is not compatible. A jenner does not have the same steel frame as a hunchback, nor is its armor plating shaped the same way. If you take inventory by pure tonnage then you assume there is sort of magical reprocessing and remolding center in mechlab.

Also due to this fact the full price of ferro and endo should not be paid, as selling of old standard armor and standard internal should discount it.

Not exactly how customization works... look up information on Battletech customization.

Good point about jumpjets being different sizes.

Interesting point about engines as inventory..
Say you strip the Vlar 300 engine from an Atlas and when you customize your Centurion, you can try to stick that engine onto the Centurion (within tonnage constraints).

Agree with endo-steel, but I think ferro-fibrous should be allowed to be kept as inventory.
A hammer can be used to make that Jenner ferro-fibrous armor fit onto that Hunchback.

I like seeing engines as inventory items that are interchangable between Mechs.

JumpJets, Armor, and Internal Structures, though, should be integral to the Mech and not an inventory item (in my opinion). They are not very interchangable. Maybe the jumpjets... but they won't cost too much I assume...

we'll have to see how customization goes in beta and then suggest improvements.

I will agree that engines are something of a one size fits all component. Because of their nature, they were standardized for easy repair and replacement. So they should be allowed as an inventory item.

Jumpjets are a little more tricky, They are designed for a specific mech design...so while I do not see any harm in being able to pull them out, they should be inextricably linked to that mech chassis. That way they can be stored, put back in, but can not be put into any other mech chassis.

Armor on the other hand has to be cut and properly shaped for the mech, and while it could be made in layer panels for the purposes of simple tonnage and protection (Hey I want two tons more on my torso, Fred can you add three panels). Armor should be also tied to the chassis they is can be fitted to due to the radical shape differences most mechs have.

As for Endo-Steel, to get that addition is allot more complex. To add it your literally talking about tearing down each part of the mech to get to the frame then replacing it with a new frame work. It would be akin to replacing the skeleton of a human. It is probably not a simple matter and should not be allowed to be removed with out consequences. Hell in this case I personally would put that mech on a cool down timer to represent the time it would take your grease monkey to get the job done.
