This isn't Valentine's Day. I'm not buying chocolates. I'm buying C-bills and a battlemech of my choice, while supporting this game and its developers.
Also, I'm not throwing $60 at something uncertain. If I wanted to do that, I'd go back to Star Trek Online.
Well, be my guest and spend $60 for a mech that you will get for free two months later if present rumours turn into reality; it is your money, not mine. Upon EFP availability you would be buying mostly a C-bills booster, $80 worth of in-game currency (C-bills) and earlier game access for one of four mechs that will be free of charge on the official game launch day. As stated before I would prefer two mechs instead, one that I can choose from 4 randomized mechs (one for each weight category) plus two months later then the free official MWO launch mech (from whatever will be available then), methinks much more value for the money, also freedom of choice and superior game balance and mech diversity.
Personally, I prefer to (show) support once I know a product is good and justifies such and not pay in advance for something that may lose its appeal in a few weeks time, plus I don't need to advertise that I will support something, so that everyone will notice how 'noble' I am, I just do it without announcement if I want to.
Thanks for the suggestions, perhaps I should consider Star Trek Online.

You definitely have a point there, a Beta (and the EFP is basically a part of it due to the earlier game access prior to the official launch date) is better controlled with a limited amount of mech types and variants available. However, the real question is whether or not one would potentially give up the freedom of choice when purchasing the EFP that includes a mech pre-selected from only four available at that time at the price of not being able to select one of all the announced F2P mech types afterwards on the official MWO launch date using the same player character account.

First off, I *want* a C-bill boosted mech, for income purposes. Second, I want to support the developers for finally showing an active, tangible interest in the Battletech universe, which has been neglected for the past 10 years. Third, supporting a video game isn't 'noble', and you seem to be mistaking my support of the game/devs for preening, which it is not.
The point of my previous post is that I'm not dropping real-world money on a slot machine; I'm not going to pay for a single roll of the dice, in hopes that I will get the founder's mech I want. I want the ability to choose the chassis I want, since I'll be playing it quite a bit to make extra C-bills, I'd imagine.
If you end up trying Star Trek Online, good luck.

Yeah, I get the feeling mine will be as much of a hangar queen as Hanse Davion's Battlemaster was. That said, he still found a use for his two more times after it started gathering dust.

So... you'll never ever KickStarter something you want eh? Different strokes for different folks... This is MechWarrior, I'll throw money at it to see what happens, I love it that much.

If I get to choose the mech, unless it turns out to be non-viable I would imagine that I will still be playing it well after 3 months have gone, especially if I have maxed out (or am still maxing) the tech tree.
