The addition of Faction tags is exactly what I've been asking to be added for a long time. When dropping into a game however, it appears that a great majority of the player base are "Lone Wolves." I attribute this mostly to the fact that faction choice is available only within the forums. Most players probably have no idea how to change faction or even what a faction is. Please add faction choice within the mech lab interface.

Also, selecting the 'merc' faction designates you as lone wolf in game, as best I can tell.

If you look most people posting on the forums are also labeled as Lone Wolves. I think the reason you don't see faction tags is that right now they mean absolutely nothing. Maybe when Community Warfare comes around I and my friends will pick a faction but it is just as likely we will be or form a Merc Corp and STILL not have a faction tag.

It's a glitch guys... Just like when they first gave us our pilot pics last patch and we all had incorrect faction symbols next to our pilot pics in mech lab. I'm sure they will get it right next patch.

Heck...When CW hits, I truly hope we have people displaying their house unit or merc corp in the drop screen AND in game.

I agree that the ability to change faction should be in the game. I was a little surprised when I found out that you have to come to the forums/website to do it. I haven't bothered changing mine because I don't think it really does anything at the moment. I might change it now just because I'm thinking about it...
