Maybe it was just a difference in expectations, but last night I tried out 4 jumping mechs:

12-JJ Spider. This one rises like I think light mechs ought to. I feel a little gypped having to spend 6 tons on jets for it. The amount of utility from the jumping might be worth 4 tons, since that's what canon Spiders carry (8 jump jets), but even then, canon Spiders are supposed to be able to do more aerial maneuvers with directional thrust.

2-JJ Catapult. I was just testing out how the 'less than full' JJ system would work, and it was enough for me to make some handy aerial PPC blasts in Frozen City.

4-JJ Cataphract. Worked great, the way I think it ought to. In general, the heavy mech JJs seem to work okay.

5-JJ Jenner. This seemed to always ascend more slowly than the Cataphract did. Again, maybe it was a quirk of perception, with my faster running speed making the upward acceleration seem comparably slower. But right now compared to Closed Beta, light mech JJs feel a little weaker.

I haven't tested 5 JJs on a Spider to see how it compares to 5 JJs on a Jenner. But I will say that if the developers are willing to let us have the jumping ability of the 12-jet Spider, I would request that they let us do it with only 8 jets. The extra 2 tons seem like a punitive tax, especially on such a light mech.

(And if you want to be really nice, put a weapon slot in one of its arms, so it can actually fire while jumping over someone.)

I agree. The JJ's need a little rework, especially tuning them to account for heavier or lighter loads. The same JJ's on an awesome should easily be able to lift a jenner a lot quicker, let alone a spider for the same tonnage. If your awesome needs to go higher, it needs more jj's. They should lift based on their thrust vs. the mass*gravity pull of what they're lifting. I won't go into the math, but I personally haven't run JJ's on my jenners since they changed them two or three times ago. Hopefully they'll work something out.

Well, JJs on an Awesome would weigh 1 ton each, while on a Jenner they're .5 tons.

Huh.. didn't know that. Shows you how often I play an awesome. I thought it was .5 all around since everything I've ever put them on is .5 tons. Well I suppose that makes sense. As long as it balances out to be similar weight/performance I guess that's reasonable.
That said, I would totally put a 1 ton jj on a jenner if it had more punch than 2x.5s.

Hm, that would be nice.

Oh, and for the record, Awesomes cannot equip JJs at all. But a Cataphract can, and either it or a hypothetical jumping 80 tonner would have 1 ton jets.

Still, has anyone else noticed, in particular, the Founders Jenner rising very slowly?

Since JJ factored the amount equiped the Jenners seem to have come up short

I notice it particularly when I start my jump as the mech is at the edge of a downward slope. If I'm trying to go up a hill, the jets help there (I suppose, if we had the proper animations, it would look like the mech is clambering up with its feet while the jets provide a little boost).

But sometimes I seem to ascend just as slowly as I did before this latest patch. I wonder if it's due to uneven terrain. Like, sometimes I'm able to make a jump up to about half the height of the antenna tower hill in Forest Colony, but sometimes I barely get a quarter of the way there. I'll have to keep testing. I'm fully willing to consider that this might be just a perception issue, and not a bug.
