Then be the random on your team that suggests scouting.. or even better.. scout for them.

On a whole.. people like fighting more than capping.. so a pubbie that knows where the enemy is early is likely to fight it.

I never pug.

The problem is that pugs and premades are at an impasse on that map. Pugs (for some reason) feel safer going the upper city route and premades take the shortest (and best covered) route to the enemy cap. And scouting doesn't matter because neither team is willing to cross the river to attack the other because the team that defends is at a huge tactical advantage. So when our scout tells us that the pubbies are marching through upper city, all we can do is say "well, I guess they want a cap race" and then we pile onto their cap. And any pubbies that do try to run back get cut down from cover while they are crossing the river.

They could fix the map by getting rid of the river, or narrowing it considerably.

I said enough on this subject before, I will wait and see those 2 new maps and judge then how capable is team responsible for making those. Till now 4 small maps and quality of them is not even bad or anything, but saying something like "PGI has exceedingly high standards for it's maps" from what i seen till now is just a joke...I just hope new maps will be something better than those 4 we have now... But I don't expect those to reach level of maps present in MW:LL :)

Four small maps would be acceptable for a tech demo, but for an open beta I find it pretty depressing, not to mention boring.

I've always said if anything, the lack maps will be the downfall of this game. I don't know why it the devs are blind to it.

Maps are HARD and take MONTHS to make. (PGI has exceedingly high standards for it's maps)

I made such a loud disagreement sound in front of the computer I dropped my chewing gum. The maps are bland, boring have limited scope for variation in the way the game plays out. The cry engine is easy to map in, they have enough assets to be able to knock out another four or five maps without it looking like copy pastes of the current four maps yet they don't for some reason but rather give us minute variations of the same map.

Then get a dev copy and prove them that it can be done...

While you're at it, bust out some netcode fixes, some 3D modeling, artwork, and lastly run payroll for a company.

People dog on River City for the wrong reasons. It is a great map, it is just a little slow and harder to work if you lack skill.

What are the "right reasons?"

Scouts can really flourish in RC especially in Conquest. Plenty of places to duck and weave thru. They can hide long enough to text positions. There are options to fight in tight quarters (High City) in more open quarters (Low City) and out in the river for big brawls. IMO the people who feel it's not a good map go straight to the middle of the river and duke it out.

One thing I almost never see on River City is a team defending the bottom side.

We had our 3 heavies/assaults shut down behind buildings, and told the pugs are dirty ambush plans, and it worked out perfectly. The first couple of guys to come charging through for the cap rush got gunned down ruthlessly, and the rest of their team tentatively engaged 2-3 at a time, only to be met by fire are mechs ducked in and out of the buildings.

It was quite fun, mostly because they seemed quite confused to see a team defending that area.

River City is rarely a breakdown into a single mass brawl, and the buildings prevent the new EPPPC/PPC sniper cheese builds. Before ECM it was the best map to use with ambush tactics, cornering mechs, etc.

River City is disliked because it is a CITY map, lots of rotten mech pilots have to stay in the water because they cannot drive (and are going to HATE collisions to the WoWhiner level). You cannot just run straight out and start the inevitable circle. Basically it is one of the better maps are rewarding tactics and smart play.

The right reasons to pick on a map is imbalance between initial positions, a lack of cover that forces you to move in the open (not that many are smart enough to realize it), channelling that causes the fights to be repetition, bad features, sticky spots, latency inducing crappiness, etc. Overall the maps in game are okay, they are just boring as death to many who have played them now.
