Finally done upgrading all 3 of my Stalkers after the Atlases. Skipping Awesomes because they are in fact not awesome. Next in weight class is the Cataphract. I am a big fan of ballistics but only 3D and 4F are of any use to me IMO. Don't wanna spend MC on Ilya due to personal taste--though I always wanted to try out triple UAC5s.

I got buttloads of fighting experience in my SRM boat Stalkers, so I was thinking maybe to try out the Catapults next--faster boats, so to speak. A1 and K2 are no brainers but I am torn between C1 and C4.

So got any suggestions on which ones should I buy next--Phracts or Pults? Also which variants are good in your opinion? C1 or C4 for Catapult?

Thanks, mates.

4x with uac5x2 and ac2x2 is really fun.

But if you want to dominate and stomp choose the catapults. A1 with srm6x6 and k2 with ac20s are the king right now.

And the c1 can be used as a poptart. Not effective, but fun.

I suppose jumpjets are fun to try. Still haven't made up my mind on whether leveling up Phracts or Pults, yet.

I love both frankly. Two highest KDR's/ damage per match averages I have in any mech chassis is with Cats and Phracts (not including pre-patch Jenners....I'm sure that with netcode fixes, my scores with that will have gone down once I get in and practice in them some more).

I really enjoy the C1, C4 and K2. I don't have any desire to pilot the A1 as its too "one trick" pony imo, although the trick is admittedly pretty bad assed when you pull it off, lol.

I'm using the 3D and loving it right now, IL is solid as well....next for me will be the one with the highest engine rating (not the 4X right? I can't remember off hand).

Frankly you can't go wrong with either and in the time it takes you to master xp one, you've earned more than enough cash to buy the next one and equip it how you like....so pick a chassis and just run with it. Having said that....if speed is your thing or the close fight I'd recommend the Cats first....better torso twist and just feels a little more durable to me. If you're ok with speed and positional fighting vice brawling, I'd say try the Phract first.

Both can do both, I just thing Cats are more forgiving for the close fight than Phracts, who can be great with the arm mounted weapons at range on the move laterally.

My favorite mech ever is my CTF-2X with an AC10, 2xLL, 2xSRM6, and an XL300 engine. It's mobile, heat-efficient, and capable at any range. Will it lose 1v1 versus an 6x6 A1 within 100 meters? Sure it will, but I should expect to lose in a knife-fight against a specialist knife-fighter. The A1 can't do anything else.

That being said, I think the catapult is the superior chassis overall because most players do better with specialization rather than versatility, and the catapult is superior in the mobility department with JJ available on more chassis and torso-twist that is far superior to the cataphracts twist+arm range. If they would extend the CTF's torso-twist range to make up for the arm mobility nerf then it would be a little bit closer.

One more thing a CTF can do that the CAT cannot is jump-sniping with gauss rifles on the 3D chassis.

I can't say much about the 'phracts because I haven't tried them yet, but the catapults are definitely a good and fun mech to use. I will say that I know a couple of good pilots who can take on nearly anything in a 'phract and win, but that's not saying much about the chassis itself.
As for the catapults If you want to boat missiles you can get an A1 ( 6 missile hardpoints ), if you want energy weapons for backup or a TAG you can get the C1 ( 2 missile, 4 energy, 2 of which are in the CT ) or the C4 ( 4 missile, 2 energy in the CT) , if you want to be a sniper or any kind of precision shooter you can get the K2 ( 2 energy, 2 ballistic ) . The C4 and A1 are best for missiles, but can't really do precision shooting which the C1 can do and the K2 excels at.

And the 2x can act as a baby-atlas.

VERY fast for its weight and packs pretty much the same punch as an ECM D-DC.

The 3D is my favorite mech by far. Right now I'm running 2x UAC/5, 2LL, 2ML and JJs. If you don't like JJs, I suggest 2 AC/10s instead. The 1X with 5LLs is good (or 3LLs and a gauss), and the 2x is fun if you like missiles.

I think the missile boating catapult builds are incredibly vulnerable to having their big dumb ears shot off. People love catapults because their SRM36 builds have such high alpha damage, and in some pug matches you get some sweet kills, but they're incredibly bad in losing situations or if you find yourself outnumbered. They're not consistent, IMO, unless you have a team or the other team is bad.
