If would be nice if we had more then once position then either standing or moving.
These would be assigned to a key and only available during the right action phase.

Stationary Actions:
1) crouch (all)
2) Humanoid (Hands, lower arm actuators only) Go prone (getting on belly and firing like a soldier)

Walking Actions:
3) Side Step: (Obvious)
"complete stop after movement, think of it as an interrupt to walking"
4) Weave: (turns mech 90 degrees Left or Right and takes a step back changing facing)
"complete stop after movement, think of it as an interrupt to walking"

Running Actions:
5) Leap (Directly Forward in direction of Legs) (not a jump as this is kick off for distance/speed burst rather then height, thinking of a horse.)
"Slow down and recovery after landing, followed by speed spool up again"

Alternatively the Leap Animation could be used to differentiate a collision from a charging action.

Walking should have a different animation then running. Also an indicator should separate the boundary between walking and running on your throttle.

Go PRONE?!!? Weaving!? LEAPING!?!?!?

As respectfully as I can, "No, No, NO!" I'm gonna hold my tongue on saying anything more, but this game SIMPLY cannot become QuakeWarrior or Call of Mechty.

The sketches are phenomenal... if they were for features on the next Call of Duty game.

Not feeling it, at the most maybe a couch so the more upright mechs can actually take cover behind some of the shorter buildings.

I want my mech returning fire, not crawling around on the ground blind with it's weapons in the dirt.

Some of these things SHOULD be implemented - ie straifing sideways to peep in and out, however this would be limited but the leg structure (most mechs just go forwards/backwards), nut can be overcome by turning torso 90deg and moving.

You should also be able to crouch as is in previous MW. Diving, rolling, prone? Maybe stick with FPS if you want these.

I for one would welcome seeing a mech do a barrel roll. Good suggestion!

If you want that ability, you can play Heavy Gear. The only one that might make sense is kneeling. This makes you more difficult to see and would stabilize your aim/shot. However, it would put you in a pretty vulnerable position if the enemy found you since it would take a few seconds to become standing again. It would also be interesting if a mech knelt down so that a mech behind them could fire at the same time it was.

I was thinking of a control scheme with a few modifications to default throttle, turning, and forward/back behavior that would be more familiar to people coming to MWO from first person shooters. The idea behind these is to let people maintain control for their torso facing at all times, with the legs being pretty much automated.

W: Walk. Aligns legs to torso, then sets throttle to forward and 100%. If torso facing changes while this is held down, it aligns the legs as quickly as possible.

A/D: "Strafe." Same as pressing W, but aligns the legs perpendicular left/right to the torso instead. Automatically keeps legs perpendicular in the same way.

W + A/D: Same throttle/alignment behavior, but the default leg facing is 45 degrees relative to the torso.

S: Same as pressing W, but with the throttle at 100% reverse instead.

S + A/D: Same as pressing W + A/D, but with reverse throttle.

There'd have to be a checkbox for selecting whether you want to keep throttle at 100% at all times, or whether to stop/slow down while the legs are aligning.

I like this tho the W throttle can be whatever you set the percentage to from 1 - 0 on the numbpad. 1 being lowest % 0 being 100% throttle.

So if you pressed 5 on the numpad W would make your walk forward at 50% your max.

Yeah, 100% might be a bit much on Light 'Mechs or fast Mediums, though you could probably set it to 100% without trouble on Heavies and Assaults.

I don't think is unreasonable since it's quite common in the Battletech Universe. Light mechs twisting and dodging shots, crouching and peeking around buildings.

Crouching sure... leaping and sliding no.

As for the other movements, you can do those already, it just takes more than a simple button press and having the mech do it for you.

I do not want this to be any more like CoD.

Crouch and side step yes the others no.
These are multikiloton walking tanks..
Some of the lights and medims are already far far more agile and maneuverable.
it takes an eleven move to do a circle araound a one hex object
In Tt there is a little rule about useing Jump jets (Can't remember where we found it) to assist maneuver but the heat is rxtremly hige\. higher than just jumping
