No idea why they prefer to be called bronies to pegasisters...personally, I found the term endearing and unique.

Perhaps it has something to do with the social-community mind and not wanting to be seen as "outsiders" from the larger brony community.

...Or just wanting to be 'one of the guys'.

K, so, in the order of myself finding Colt ponies to be fairly fugly, I hereby present this ordinance:

• Men are Mares.
  
• Colts are... ehh... you know that generally foul word that starts with C? And is, used as a noun, possessed only by females?
  
• Hitherto, Rule 63 must apply to all Bronies whom create an OC of a real-life character.
  
• But, um, you know, whatever you want to do is fine... and I'm totally OK with it. I might even like it.
  
• So, you're not colorblind. Fabulous! You can view the ENTIRE RAINBOW! Isn't that GREAT? Please, now, look at the rainbow, and anything you draw in color, and please consider your color choices. Please.

1) Mare is the name for an adult female horse...so yea, that REALLY doesn't go over well...Perhaps Stallions?

Mare is definitely the word for a female horses in the show, and I'm sure they used stallions to refer to male horses at least once.

The Cutie Mark Crusaders refer to males as stallions when they're trying to set their teacher up.

Actually, that's just correct usage. An adult male is a stallion, adult female is a mare. Colt refers to younger males (Snips & Snails) while filly is the same on the female side. (The Crusaders are fillies.) The Cake twins are newborn foals.
However, Applejack's original comment was not on the proper use of gender terminology, but more an opininon that all pony OCs should be female.
Of course, there is Mayor Mare announcing "fillies and gentlecolts..."
