So far only on alpine but I believe this could happen in any other map in cry engine.
Simply put, the angled ice decelerates up to a certain speed and above that speed starts accelerating the mech.
Those cliffs in Alpine shouldn't be climbable at all from steep sides, let alone have acceleration going upwards.

I'd say that this is a fascinating bug, but I'm not entirely sure I understand correctly what is happening. Care to elaborate on this?

I've explained it enough. Up to a certain speed you're sliding down the hill, above that speed you're sliding upwards and accelerating.
Seriously, the best way for you to have it explained to you is doing it yourself.

I think i know what hes talking about.. goin up some of the slopes u'll be goin all one speed.. than boom u get a burst of speed goin up the same slope.
could it be something with changing from a rocky slope to a ice or snow covered slope perhaps.

In all honesty acceleration vs terrain is completely broken in this game, it only roughly works in normal game modes.

yeah the way mechs go up steep terrain in this game is pretty broken.

i've had an atlas just fly by me like he was doin over 100kph by using the side of a mountain hill on alpine.. I was like WTF...
I havent seen an atlas move that fast since closed beta b4 they limited engine sizes.

I guess there's a traversal penalty on blocks of terrain that tells your mech that it's supposed to be struggling and slowing (as seen elsewhere). If that penalty is not correctly mapped then I guess your mech thinks it's on the flat and moves at the fixed rate. It's probably doing the correct lateral speed but looks silly because it's vertical speed is way off.
I hope in the same repair pass for fixing this they also fix all the entirely bad texturing where a billion tons of granite mountain looks like jelly and pops back and forth as you pass it.

I've noticed that the steep grades on alpine are climbable but equal grades on other maps are not...
