No I'm not using dumb as pejorative but as the opposite of "smart" or guided missile.

My point being is that LRMs are incredibly dumb, and there's nothing players can do to mitigate this stupidity!

Example, how many times have you been like 10 feet down the side of a hill, firing your LRMs at something 800 meters away in a valley below and had your dumb missiles uselessly slam into the rock infront of you rather than lift a couple of feet into the air to avoid it? And, no matter which way you turn or angle your launchers, they'll *always* come out this exact same way.

MWLL had brilliant implementation of LRMs (and ATMs) in that players were able to slightly manipulate their flightpaths by adjusting the angle at which they fired. This allowed people to arc them over low obstacles or slightly around corners with enough skill and practice and greatly improved the "fun" of using LRMs. I really appreciated the amount of user input something as simple as a lock-on missile had, and it's something I feel MWO is really lacking in.

you can make the initial trajectory of the missiles higher if you aim to the sky and manage to keep your lock, it's how you shoot over rocks, easy enough.

I'm agree on this. The angle of the launcher doesn't seem to effect the path of missiles coming out of it.

LRMs are only as smart as the pilot firing them.

Pro tip: You can move your aiming reticule upwards/sideways a bit without loosing lock when in cover, then they will nicels launch with a steeper angle / make a small curve.

You can only achieve lock with the "o". Why not the "+"? So I can adjust my angle while retain lock:)

I was asked this earlier but do missiles lock from the arm or torso reticle?

Edit: Someone already answered me.

Here's to free looking LRM fire.

Moved this topic to the General Guides sub forum, where it may help other players with firing LRMs.

The firing angle suggestion would be interesting.

Post this in the suggestion forum, imo...

That is a good tip, but can some times be difficult to perform being that lock-on does fall off after a couple of seconds.

By adding a firing angle toggle for multiple different angles, a pilot could better angle their shots over terrain.

Suggestion forum, gogo.

Actually, LRMs probably aren't dumb enough.
If you play with the numbers you find a single LRM should weight a little over 8kgs.
If you compare that with small solid rocket motors then to achieve the range of an LRM it needs to be almost ALL propellant.
There is not much more than 1kg left for the warhead, sensors, guidance and control systems.
The best you could probably do is make LRMs wire guided (the sensors and guidance are on the launcher and the control information is fed to the missile by a wire).

You are left with invoking Star League era Lostech which isn't really consistent with the fluff on missile tech.

Several seconds...
Tis quite easy to even do a 360 spin while still maintaining lock during that time. (And incidentally shoot LRMs backwards when you be at a 180 angle.)

Also since it be the ARM reticle which maintains the lock, it be extremely easy to maintain lock regardless of where you be. (Me can maintain lock on targets above, below, next to, and even behind me.)
