"Wah, I don't know how to play a game that has multiple win conditions. Wah." Thats all I read from the OPs post. Seriously, it isn't that hard to defend.

Also it is a strategy to attack the base to draw mechs back to defend.

These posts have been getting obnoxious.

I used to see this when I played Assault too. Another thing I hated about Assault was that it was just one big LRM fest. The game typically was about hiding behind cover while the LRM boats exhausted their ammo, then there was one big chaotic push where the remaining mechs clashed, then it was over. Really tedious and boring. It's funny how many people complain about ECM, when LRM whoring is a lot worse in my experience. It's even worse now that the new end of round screen ranks you pretty much solely by damage done. My solution was to change the game type to Conquest. Problem solved.

IMDHO :P

I don't mind losing... I just dislike boring matches.
I don't mind having a poor KDR (0.55) ... its a natural result of a light mech only play vs a mix of bigger mechs.
I don't mind being blown apart as I spot... natural part of being exposed and taking one for the team.
I don't mind capping being part of the game... I do mind it if that is the only thing that is done for grinding.

I do find it boring watching a Lance+ half of which are Atlases capping my base who won't even bother shooting at the defenders because the attackers have parked and AFK'd. Literally second match I was firing on two Atlases, there was a Cicada and a Raven. They just parked and timed it out. Not the most exciting thing to do.

The meta game at the moment means that the quickest way to get XP per minute is to go base CAP and that's it. Smart, disciplined game style that results in the quickest way of getting your team as much XP as possible asap. It also results in a very limited fun. If I wanted to jump from spot to spot I'd be doing Carebear Indy runs in Eve.

The most engaging games are the resource capture ones. As they either end out in a slug fest or a cat and mouse game of hit and run. Never quite sure which it will be and what will happen.

Think of it this way if they game becomes less engaging, people will spend their time somewhere else. A successful game has more then just TDM, it has more then just capping. Meta-gaming will always exist. But the Death Knell™ of any game is repetitive boredom or when you spend more time launching a match then actually pew pew pew.

Also have a hardcore of gamers who are rude, obstinate and asinine doesn't do many favours for many who join. But I like that behaviour when it is mixed with intelligence, wit and humour. So far I feel short changed. :P
