Ok, so I've piloted both a Cicada and a Jenner, and I've noticed they take fall damage to their legs ridiculously easily. Now, I understand that, if I were to drop the height of my mech or more, some damage is due. Makes sense. But when with the two mentioned, I've taken fall damage when running over a car, when crossing or dropping from a small fence, and when going into the water from lower base in River City.

Is this working as intended, or is there a bug I don't know about? One would think some shock-absorbers would be integrated into Battlemech construction.

This has been around for so long I don't even know if it's a bug anymore...

I "trip" over rocks that aren't part of the ground mesh which deal those little 1 ticks of damage. Much more of a problem on the tiny mechs (cicada and smaller). I agree it is a bit frustrating losing 3-5 armor off your legs before you even see combat. Now when I jump off a ledge, fine take my damage... but last time I checked a 25 ton commando still outweighs a 2 ton car... so why do I take damage from it.

It's a bug. Some people will tell you it's a "realism" addition due to lights moving at high speed needing some kind of speed damage risk or something but it's not.

everything is realism to those people, even the bugs. they'll say its because no tech is perfect so it improves the simulation feel of this game.

They say it's a bug.

It's just a low priority bug. A very low, low, low priority bug.

Will, it's a freaking annoying bug. I've can't even really mitigate it with jump jets. It helps about half the time, but then I hit a rick and it happens anyways.

Yeah, I've noticed this too, which is strange, because the opposite should be true in physics. That's why you'll never be able to kill insects and small animals with a fall no matter how far you drop it, while large animals can be seriously injured or killed after a drop of only a few feet.

However, for an 18 meter Atlas to weigh 100 tons it'd have to have roughly the average density of styrofoam, and would be blown over by a stiff breeze (let alone the kick of an AC/20), so I'm assuming bigger 'mechs take less damage because they have more internal bracing or something like that.

On a side note, is the tonnage of a 'mech its actual gross tonnage, or is that just the tonnage of mission equipment it can hold? I would love to have a canon answer to this question.

Seems to happen more often at higher speed for me. However, it can happen anytime. You can also try cushioning your fall if you have jump jets (even one will do the trick). That also doesn't always work, but helps quite often.

Yeah... it's annoying to say the least. I've had a highly damaged leg fall off from bumping a pebble...

LOL...if you think thats bad wait till they re-introduce Collisions...! I cant wait, so much EZ mode w/out it being on, and even more so will make many a light pilot cry rivers of tears on these forums.

Actual collisions make sense. Sanding down your leg armour while performing basic movement doesn't. Collisions are irrelevant to this thread.
