If you are experiencing a crash right after hitting the PLAY button on the patcher this may be your issue.
Toggle the Team Speak overlay, on or off. You can find it in the Settings->Plugins Menu
This was worked out by a friend of mine RogueStarX who deserves a lot of credit for working on this problem for days! It seems the build computer PGI is using has TS installed on it, so any updates to TS may affect the MWO client.

This worked for me, only in my case it was the mumble overlay. Thanks very much!

I've had this crash on an off for a few days. Usually rebooting fixes it, but not today. Hmm, turning on the TS overlay allowed the game to run...this time. Thanks for the tip. I'll report back if the crash returns with the overlay turned on.
