well... I downloaded "sweetfx". It worked, but I could not find any settings I was pleased with so decided to remove it. clearly did something wrong, because when I hit "play" in the installer the client opens then proceeds to close instantaneously. I would expect that the simple thing to do would be to force the patcher to update again, but I have no knowledge of how I would do that... any help would be greatly appreciated.

It should not do that. Are you sure you deleted all the files ?

If you had it running i really recommend just trying to use the lumasharpen filter and nothing else.
