AMD Six-Core FX-6120

That's the one, and I was wondering on how good of a processor this is. Uses would be gaming on stuff like Witcher 2, Skyrim, and the like, usual everyday work, some multitasking, etc. I don't need to know if it is overkill, I just want to know if it will do the job specified without problems.

Thanks.

Good processor, dont skimp on the motherboard and make sure you have good cooling. At stock speeds its a little lack luster. BUT it will do at least 4.2+ ghz on good cooling. Usually you can aim for 4.6+ without much trouble.

You'll struggle a bit in MWO on DX9, in the sense that framerates will probably drop into the mid 30s, give or take, when there's a lot of action, but that's the worst you'll have to put up with at stock settings. When MWO goes DX11 an FX-6120 would be great, and in general gaming doesn't require a super-beefy CPU in the majority of cases.

All in all I'd say it's a fine pick. I can't find this CPU available for direct purchase, only in existing machines, so I assume it's OEM-only. Can I take this to mean you're buying a prebuilt desktop? Or does some store actually sell this CPU by itself?

I have an FX-4100 OC'd to 4.2 GHz and I know I can push it to 4.4 GHz.

The FX-61XX will work just fine. Get a better cooler though. I'm using an Antec 620. Max temp has been 49 deg C. FX-6100 at newegg

Switched from the Phenom II 965 BE @ 4.0 to the FX-8350 @4.6 and it made a huge boost in FPS
