With the new scoreboard we can now see which faction everyone is aligned with. So my question is, what impact does/will this have on gameplay if any?

None whatsoever at this point. Maybe it will have some when community warfare is implemented.

Being able to see allegiances might come in handy when houses, merc corps, and clans are all fighting each other over territories.

Hai, it is baby steps in getting ready for CW. And already dislike the use of factions, like this is Solaris or MW: Dark Ages :P

Before the clans arrived planets of Innersphere are ruled by 5 Great Houses and a variety of other nation states. Each state is protected and served by the arm of its own military such as:
  • Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery (DCMS) for the Draconis Combine ruled by House Kurita
  • Armed Forces of the Federated Suns (AFFS) for the Federated Suns ruled by House Davion
  • The Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces (LCAF) for the Lyran Commonwealth ruled by House Steiner
  • The Free Worlds League Military (FWLM) for the Free Worlds League ruled by House Marik
  • The Capellan Confederation Armed Forces (CCAF) for the Capellan Confederation ruled by House Liao
  • The Rasalhague KungsArmé (Royal Rasalhague Army) (RKA/RRA ?) for the Free Rasalhague Republic (very short lived as such)
The reason I point the above out is primarily due to how PGI plans on running with it. As this is not a MMORPG with all of the flavors of military and civilian life but simply the focus on the actual mechwarriors, either part of the military arm for a House or mercenary groups. Lone wolves fall in the shadows, but if from a more literal sense they are mw who are in transit when caught up in action, or if looked at from MPBT EGA perceptive, another way of getting the mechwarriors stationed elsewhere to the front line by co-op.

Depending on how the community fleshes itself out "when" Community Warfare is introduced may help determine/guide PGI as they continue to develop the game.

I know my house uses it to get in contact with other Marik supporters to strengthen and expand our community. Of course our mass drops on NGNG and Comstar NA have brought so many previously lone-wolf players that it's a small area of recruitment at best.
