Okay I think I know what you misunderstood. Not our own MC, I assume the OP meant buying MC from PGI and then gifting it to some third person.

I would really love to gift some MC, as my SO doesn't want to spend money on "a game"... Even though she really likes it.
Without it, she cannot use our units colours and that sucks a little bit.
Gimme the functionality to gift MC and I buy fresh MC for her!

They don't care where the source of the money comes from. You spending $100 for your pal or your pal spending $100 on their own is still $100 for PGI, though it should be just new purchases only, not a straight up transfer of currently owned MC.

What about the people with MC just sitting there? I have some i don't know what to do with. If i could give it to a friend i would. Since i can't, I either have to get on his account and buy it for him or give him money to do it. I could see them letting you buy it and immediately give it to someone like gifting a game in steam maybe? Stop asking pertinent questions and making me type at 4:30 am.

True. it is a bad way to gift MC. On the otherhand it is not nearly as bad as when MC transfers between accounts would be possible and there is a wave of account hacks.

In these sort of aspects you also have to think of and plan about when things dont go the way they should.

I hadn't thought of that and I agree that inter-account transferral is probably a bad idea.
Maybe I should be able to gift fresh MC to another person as I would have to re-enter my credit card info as well. (Unless the credit card info is saved here as well, but then gifting is the least of my problems)

It's a social engineering issue. If you burn all your MC (which you actually can do, by converting 'mech xp to gxp) then you don't have that little bit of extra MC sitting there encouraging you to buy more. Riot Games' "riot points" work the same way.

As for being able to buy MC for other people's accounts, that may or may not be worth their time to code - it all depends on how many people ask for it. =)
