Is This A Viable Ctf-4X Sniper?

I'm trying to find a more viable build for my 4X. Currently I have 4xAC/5 on it and it just gobbles ammo and is not as good of a brawler as I had first thought. I've decided to try a more snipey build, and this is what I came up with: CTF-4X.
Does anybody else have a build like this, or a better sniper build? Unfortunately no PPCs as the energy hardpoints are in the torso.

Tried that. For pugging it utterly sucks. Given it's speed you're just ****** once anything manages to close up to you. Also that XL engine makes you an easy kill for other snipers and with the arm mounted gauss rifles and again due to it's low speed you cannot use cover very effectively. And if you manage to survive you will run out of ammo at some point rendering you completely useless.
If you want to go sniping in a CTF use a PPC based 3D.

2 of my CTF are more or less long range designated builts
One with 3 PPCs and one with the dual Gauss.
For my opinion every Ctf with a XL Engine is marked as doomed, even if you manage to survive a longer time, at some point you will just core if you dont play against a team of brutal beginners. The Torso of the Ctf is just so f***ing huge that, no matter what, you will get cored pretty fast.
I run all my systems with STD engines.
The gauss has the standart 210, wich wont make it much of a runner but you dont need it. Plus im using in most cases 70 Ammo and 2 backup mLs in the center, no AMS needed for a sort of guerilla type of gameplay. You use cover everytime its provided and you never peak over hilltops!
Die Gauss Cataphract is not easy to play because the arms are hanging pretty low, but its a Fun built if you manage to execute the matching strategys.
If you want a Cata brawler try the 2x. It has awesome brawler capabilitys.

I disagree with Jason.
255 isn't fast, but it's not that bad, especially if you're not planning to brawl.
A lot of people claim XL is so bad for CTF, but I find my side torsos seldom take much damage, most of it going CT. I actually experimented with STD engines and found I died just as fast, but more often because of the firepower I gave up.
Gauss in the arms are just fine. Sure, it can blow, but crits are not guaranteed . And with the broad torso of a CTF, I don't think I've ever had anyone target my arms. I generally run my Ilya as a Gaussaphract and I'm almost certain I've never had a Gauss blow. Even if it does, it's a relatively small explosion blowing off an arm that just became worthless, anyway.
It's true that the arms are low and wide, neither of which is ideal for a hide-behind-the-hill-and-get-an-ocasional-shot sniper. But it's fine for the kind of sniper that circles a few hundred meters out from the brawl putting pinpoint damage on the focus target.
I'd try something more like this, though. LL isn't really a sniper weapon, so no real loss, but this give you more damage at close range and saves tonnage for more ammo and a Streak to help with lights. Also, Gauss ammo doesn't explode, but AMS ammo does, This layout puts the Gauss ammo where it has a chance of maybe taking a crit away from the gun and the explosive ammo where it's the least likely to get hit and causes the least damage if it does.

If you're serious about sniping, two gauss rifles, a Beagle probe, and as many sensory modules as you can grind. Maybe an ERLL in the center torso or a combo LRM5 + TAG. It's not much fun. Run twin AC10s and a whole crapton of ammo instead. Throw on MGs if you wanna troll.

4X is not meant to be a sniper. Too slow to pop shots and redeploy. Ilya does dual-gauss much better.
Plus, why would you carry a pair of gauss when you can boat 4xAC2/AC5?

You have more fun with gauss then with ACs?
Simple answer.

3D does a much better sniping job. 2 ERPPC/PPC and 1 Gauss with 4 jump jets

3D Phract w/ 4 LL does fine with a team behind it. It does poptart nicely too.

I currently have the 4xAC/5 build and it's terribly boring. I'm not sure I really even like the Cataphract and I don't think I'll commit to the 4m CB just to get a better engine on a chassis I most likely won't use.

Stick an SRM4 in the head and 2 med lasers in the center torso, plus your gauss rifles. Its not as good as a 3D jump sniper, but still does solid damage and can still kill things up close/zombie around if you lose your arms.
