Spider with MGs. I once had one try to kill my LRM Stalker while I melted 3 of its heavies. I think it almost ate through some of my armour by the time my team showed up to get it off me.

Spiders are the only lights I pilot, and apart from the 5D, they're pretty horrible (guess why). You can still use the usual light tactics of backstabbing and running real fast, but you won't have the damage output of a laserboat jenner, or the missiles of a raven. Can stay alive for most of the match, but damage won't be that hot. They're fun 'mechs, but not particularly powerful, and the hard-points extremely limiting.
The one thing I wouldn't do is underestimate any opponent based on the 'mech they're using. A good pilot with a well though-out build can squeeze something out of any of the current 'mechs.
That being said, it depends on what I'm running, as to what 'mechs are most difficult to engage...
If it's a spider or cicada, ravens and commandos can be difficult to engage without a buddy, as if you lose the edge in combat, it can be quite difficult to retreat. Difficult to engage anything with more than two SSRM2s in non-ECM variants.
In my hunchbacks/dragons, good cataphract and splatcat pilots are probably the most scary because of their high damage output.
My cataphract 4x fears lights, but my 2x does not.

Yeah, a mech is only as good as its pilot.
And that's why I don't fear unmodded machines. It's usually a sign of a new player. Especially when it's an unmodded mech that's currently a trial mech. ... Though I suppose that would be a good way to trick people into underestimating you.

Spiders.
Which is a stark contrast to real life. Maybe if they had given it 8 legs and more eyes...
Warning: Scary

That real-life spider is actually oddly......cute.

Hunchback
They can do heavy damage if left alone, but tend to disintigrate parts faster then some spiders are running.

1. Awesomes. Whenever i see one while piloting my atlas, i hear the Butchers voice in my head: aahhh fresh meat.
Most awesomes i see die within a few seconds if they are engaged one on one. It takes a really skilled awesome pilot to make up for the chassis shortcomings if it is matched against a 20 tons heavier mech. (And those pilots are pretty rare)
2. Hunchbacks. Thin armor, huge frame, relatively slow, impossible to miss, basically a free kill if you have a high alpha. Not even butchervoiceworthy.
