While regional servers make sense, the way PGI plans to implement them is flawed. Separate databases, segregating many groups over a decade old...its just plain poor planning. I can think of at least 4 very well respected groups in the MW community that have members spanning the globe. Team Banzai has members on pretty much every continent except Antarctica.

Most other games use one central DB for player IDs, and give players the choice of what region they connect to, allowing players to play with friends from anywhere, go to the servers that have more activity at the moment, whatever. The players are offered the choice and can change it at will to suit their needs at the time..

You realize that the Atlantic sits in the "middle", right? Any sort of uplink between Europe and the US has to be bounced across satellites. You can't just slap a server in the middle of the stormy North Atlantic and run cables between Europe and the US.

Like I said, regional servers make sense, and I don't want to insult you. EDIT....I had to leave for a while when I started this post, and once I posted it saw that some guys set you straight on the cables bit....

...but seriously man. You're talking about stuff you clearly don't even have the first understanding of....you'd be better off keeping quiet on such matters than spouting off baseless garbage and advertising to those of us who do understand these things that you're well...(I'll leave that bit unsaid)

Planetside 1 worked like that, we'd all get on at 3 am to launch our counterattack while the enemies were asleep :)

It was lol

No worries. Already acknowledged my lapse. I never liked networking anyway. I'm much happier with programming.

In mech 3 starlance league we had lobbies that facilitated controlled drops, ie maps, tonnage etc. this allow us to facilitate our Roleplaying universe and plan when we can all be available to defend or attack property. it worked fine and i used dial up for a while before i got high speed :).

BTW Hells Black Aces has membership from all over the world, something im proud of. I dont believe in discrimination or segregation..seems to me thats how Hilter got his start.

As for the EVE can do it, you can play eve with 1k ms ping and it wouldn't make much of a difference, because the game play is very slowly paced, similarly you can play games like wow with ~250 ms ping without problem, but with an FPS everything above 100 ping makes a huge difference (for example difference between hitting the head and hitting the torso).

The only argument to have is one for having regional accounts versus having a global account where you can pick gateways like old bnet style.

Regional Accounts:
+Better for a F2P Game as people are more likely to spend money (more accounts to spend it on), see LoL as an example

Global Accounts:
+More Player Friendly (for a fraction of the player base, as the benefit from this only affects a minority of players [most people have most their friends on the same continent])

So its an easy case for regional accounts to most cases.

Dude, I'm a woman and as soon as I saw ponies I lost all interest too. Seriously. This is MechWarrior. :)

How about a four legged mech that your mech can ride like a horse :D

Have you actually played EVE? Because as someone who lives in nullsec, I can debunk this myth right here and now- EVE's gameplay is not slowly paced.
