The base cap is the PRIMARY target of that game mode you should consider your playstyle.

Well i was once so ignorant or arrogant to say the same. but it has changed.
For the major part only those remain that are ready to face the steep learning curve,
if you are such a great tactical genius, hit the chat button and write what the plan will be.
Because even the worst plan is better as none.
Cheers to all players (at least most of you) i have played the last weeks in random matches. you did well.
(Is some one there who has seen the failure of my plan to attack epsilon on Caustic before moving to theta - were the fighting would start? - well my plan was a failure - because the whole enemy team was rushing to epsilon, too.... the battle was over after 2 minutes substained fighting...8:0

Ofcourse sensors could be destroyed, and send scanning wave lets say, every 1 second which gives enemy position for 0.5 second. short blink so Missile boats cant devastate the attackers.

There are two equal objectives in assault mode. One is listed before the other, but for all you know they are in ALPHABETICAL ORDER. There is no indication that base capture is the primary objective.
That being said, the mechanic is fine where it is, Take a few minutes to watch where the enemy is going from the start, scout the tunnels or caves, or find a perch to look for them. There are at most three routes used on each map, It's not hard to predict where they will go, and prepare for it.
Bonus: if you catch a base rush and can prepare for it, you will win almost every time.

This.
If you aren't going to rush yourselves, try not to rush away from base at all. Take it slow, spread out a bit (that is, quick 'mechs should spread out a bit - the slow ones should be grouped) and be ready to return if someone rushes. If they send 3 quickies and those 3 quickies realize there's a lance and a half greeting them, they'll die horribly and then it's 8v5 in your favor.

I posted the definition of assault in my post:
"A military attack, such as one launched against a fortified area or place."
So by definition of the term assault in a military context the base is the primary target.
