I'm getting a kick out of most of these comments, 'cept those telling folks to chill out.

Got my popcorn, enjoying the show while I wait for the servers to return.

And here I was hoping to get a few hours blasting mechs to pieces before I have to spend three hours trying and failing to kill Amber-Shaper Un'sok in the Heart of Fear in WoW. Maybe after I'll get a chance.

Fahrenheit is not an arbitrary scale. I'm hope you know what Kelvin is. It uses the same scale...

100 F was suppose to be the temperature of the human body.
0 F was suppose to be the temperature salt water freezes.

Funny to see how wikipedia in the english translation is shortened.^^

"Fahrenheit wählte als Nullpunkt seiner Temperaturskala die tiefste Temperatur des strengen Winters 1708/1709 in seiner Heimatstadt Danzig. Mit einer Mischung aus „Eis, Wasser und Salmiak oder Seesalz“ (Kältemischung) konnte er danach den Nullpunkt bzw. ersten Fixpunkt wieder herstellen (−17,8 °C)."

Means:
He set the zero simply to the coldest temperature he measured in the winter when he initially set up the scale.

Later on he managed to repro this temperature for a stable baseline using water and seesalt. Used in an arbitrary mixture. To have a a repro for his arbitrary zero.

Sorry, that's it.

Fahrenheit is a 100% arbitrary scale pulled out of the 'back' of a german nearly 300 years ago...

You must understand the United States viewpoint on it:

The metric system. Primarily used by socialists, communists, and dictators.

So, obviously it's a corrupting influence and most not be tolerated.

So the metric system would impurify all of their precious bodily fluids?

So it looks like the estimate of 40 minutes was WAAAAY off, without reading 35+ pages, can anyone tell me if the devs have communicated why its taking so long?

If not why, then how long until servers are up?

That just your hipster 'murrica wants to be different

Nah. We're not some teeny tiny country with only 5 signs to replace. It'd probably cost close to a trillion dollars and take over a decade to replace every damn street sign, mile marker, map, and so on, for us to switch from miles to kilometers.

And I think switching from pounds to liters for gasoline and heating oil pumps would probably cut petroleum profits in america by 15% alone. Something about switching from volume of product based measurements to actual weight of product, or I might be misremembering what I'd read on that...

Anyway, there's a **** ton of inertia for SAE measurements here that would have to be over come, and since there's no obvious profit to be made in doing it, we probably won't.

At a guess, they don't know, which means they can't tell us thus we don't know!

Fahrenheit and Celcius

°F = °C * 1,8 + 32 and °C = (°F - 32) * 5/9

whereas Kelvin and Celcius using the same scale with...

0 K = - 273 °C absolute zero

All Celcius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin are arbitrary scales, because the scaling is free chosen.

You know we're at the end of our ropes when this has devolved into a discussion about Imperial vs Metric. :P

The Imperials are fascist dictators! Oh wait, I'm a Brit...

The Imperials have cool stormtrooper armour (note the correct spelling of the word)!
Metrics are rebel scum!

Oh wait, I'm a Brit...

We're conflicted about this currently, we'll get back to you when the servers are back up.

I´ll be lost in the woods for a while...

Stomping around whole Chernarus?
PGI, plz contact Bohemia!
Maybe that engine even would´ve been better for this game than Unreal...

Well, in WoW, the cause of repeated delays in maintenance are usually attributed to the hamsters escaping the wheels that power the servers. I only just started playing MWO, but Garth seems to get a lot of the blame here, so maybe he escaped a human-sized hamster wheel that is connected to the servers and the rest of the staff is trying to lasso him back into his wheel.
