I was selecting the different parts of my mech in the load out screen when I had a thought...

As each part lit up white to show the selected area, and moving my mech around to view it from different angles, I came to thinking that I am looking at the "hit box" of that part.

I use a Cat C1 exclusively and I've seen people say how the side torso is small on the Cat. If I am indeed looking at the hit box, the side torsos are quite small when looking straight on.

I honestly don't believe this to be a positive feature of the mech. You don't know for sure that they are running a xl or std engine so you don't know for sure if taking out the side torso will kill them. The CT, on the other hand, is guaranteed to take'em down. Well, so long as you are aiming between the arms, with approx. 85% +/- 5% of what you see being nothing but CT and with the head sitting just above the center of the CT, you have a pretty fragile setup.

The secret to SRM boats isn't the arms
The secret to Duel Gauss/AC 20 isn't the side torsos
The secret isn't the legs

Just hit that hard to miss CT.

Legs have up to 60hp each so that is 120hp total to take them out and are not divided up between front and back like the torsos.

Arms are up to 40hp each for a total of 80 total and are also not split hp.

The CT has a combined total of 85hp and that is split between the front and rear. Even if all the armor is shifted forward and all you can do is go face to face, that makes the CT not only the easiest to hit but still the fastest way to take them out of the fight without gambling. It would only put them with 5 more hp than the arms combined and even if it is an SRM boat, they can still go cap and win or absorb some hits for his team mates.

Just some food for thought.

You might be interested in this. It's a pretty close representation of hitboxes:

They also have a very easy to shoot head (right in the middle, large glass)
