Why is it that every incarnation of Battletech game along the electronic frontier shuns the most famous Battlemech of all? The Urban Mech. Even when Battletech re-invented itself into a clicky game the poor Urban Mech was left on the sidelines while more noteable mechs such as the memorable walking dump truck mech and the timeless Backhoe mech. Mektek, to thier credit, implimented an Urban Mech into one of thier MW4 MekPaks. At least I think they are the ones who designed it and included it for all of MW4 fans to enjoy.

Since this is 3049, we are just crawling out of the technological deficit of the Succession Wars, I figure that the Urban Mech would still be very popular as a cheap urban defender and militia mech. So what do you think the likelihood is that the Urban Mech will make an apperance in MWO? I would like to say that it would be a crime to disclude this iconic trashcan of destruction from the 3049 Urban combat theatre. And if it isn't going to be in the game then I hope this thread will pressure the Devs into delivering a Urban Mech.

Please chime in with your thoughts and feelings.

That's not an Urbie. Urbies are supposed to suck. That's what makes them fun!

MW2:Mercs had urbanmechs. I remember it because it was how I learned that the game actually had different turning radii for different mechs. I ripped the engine out of a Jenner and put it in my Urbie, and it had a turn radius just slightly less than the length of a football field at half speed.

Mechcommander 2 has the Urbanmech as well, but unfortunately it was a walking casualty no matter how you looked at it.

my big problem with Urbs was always the beeeg stack of ammo in such a thinly armored vehicle. Swapped out to a large laser or the likes and it's quite a little beast.

Urbies are great weapon layout testing targets in MW4 (new), I usually take on about five or six for a few rounds before getting bored

You get bored, or one of them hits you for 470 critical ignoring armor? ^_^

Urbies got an outing in MW2:Mercs and also in MPBT.

If this picture is a guideline, some people couldn't get enough of them (pic courtesy of someone from IS3025 forums, not sure who).

The Urbanmech is a fine little fan mech. And when I say fan mech I just mean its a mech many fans have taken a shine to. Its cool because its not cool looking, but at the same time is cool looking Its the lovable looser you pull for in the movies But when it comes right down to it it usually lacks. Sure you can spruce it up some but then is it really an Urbie anymore? I mean really you can do the same thing with a squad of spruced up Stingers as you could Urbies. I hope they have the Urbanmech at some point here. Its fun to play with! Heck I still have a few painted up original Ral Parth lead Urbies in Waco Rangers colors lying around somewhere :-)

The thing about the Urbie in relation to MW:O, is that it might actually be a respectable combat unit.

The devs have said they plan to have the game be based in largely urban areas, which is where the urbanmech really comes into its own. It's light enough to jump from building to building while heavier mechs have to plod through the streets. It can maneuver behind someone on the rooftops, then put an AC/10 round into the target's rear armour, and hop away before they can really retaliate. I'd say it's a threat to most mediums and heavies. (you'd probably want something like a Hunchback to deal with assaults though)

I must be wierd, becasue I never understood the fascination with the Urbanmech in the BT community. . Looks like R2 got drunk, banged a trashcan, and they ggave it a little zappergunny for it`s first birthday.

But admittedly, I often find pure function usally sexier than form for the pure sense of looking good. Looking good without an actual function is, for me, existing without a valid reason. That`s why I love the way my Dire Wolf looks, nothing is there for cosmetic purposes, everything has a very real reason for being exactly where it is.

I really don`t mean to come across as dumping on the beloved Urbie, but I just never understood the hype? Maybe someone can enlighten me? *raises Beer stein*

Urbie in MWO would have 2 hard points. 1 arm mounted cannon and an arm mounted laser. Coupled with a 32.4kph max speed, and Atlas mechs will go to town on them. Not enough armor to take a hit, to slow to dodge. Even in urban arenas it's a dead mech walking.
