If you want to reduce lock on time, get Artemis. For SSRMs they don't add in any extra weight.

This!

PS: LRM and SSRM share the same ingame lock on mechanic so you get the benefit of the faster lock on time while it doesnt weight more for SSRM.
I dont know if they plan to fix it (or have fixed it already) as i have removed Artemis for tonnage reasons as i have a mixed setup of missiles.

Simply test it out yourself ;)

Artemis does nothing (zip nada zilch) for SSRMs. Thats why it's weightless/spaceless for them.

That would have been a nija fix bcs i read nothing of it in the patch notes - a few weeks ago it worked for me in a raven.

Is artimis still helping the lock-on mechanic? I'd hate to spend 1.25M on my commando to find out it doesn't help streaks lock on faster...

(750,000 artimis upgrade + 500 Standard guidance )

Yes, it still works.

Tell that to my wingman. He uses streak with Artemis and he's noticed that it locks on a lot faster with Artemis then without. I've never used streak missiles myself to be honest, but I've looked over my wingman shoulder enough while he is playing to know that it seems to work. Try it out maybe and tell me what you think? Best to test it out and if it works for yourself.

That's not because of Artemis. Either he's got BAP, or he's locking on at different ranges. But that is a good idea. I'll record a test to show you otherwise a bit later today. First I have an art assignment to do.

It's not how it should be, but Artemis DOES reduce lock-on time. No matter what weapon you intend to fire... so yes, it does work for Streaks. It doesn't improve their spread, but it reduces the lock on time quite dramatically.

I've looked over his shoulder while he's played before. I know his mech set up (and helped him refine it as he helps refine my own) and it doesn't have BAP.

BAP by the way, does nothing for lock on time. All it does is reduce the time it takes to gather information on your target (brings up paper doll faster), increase sensor range (I believe, not entirely sure on this one, never used it myself to confirm), and make it so you can detect and target near by shut down mechs (such as a mech that overheated and powered down). It doesn't do anything else that I know of beyond that.

Test it yourself if you have the C-bills to do so with.

And... did someone say... ART...? :P

Yesh. Art.

Went testing it. Felt faster, but it wasn't in side by side video comparison. My mic sucked though. Got a new headset, will re-record with the new headset after this assignment. Btw, Charcoal is best used for grilling. Why someone would want it as an art medium is beyond me.

Lock on speed appears to be affected by distance to target however. Need a more controlled test of identical motions to make perfect side by side time comparisons.

Got to love the new testing grounds for this. Might not help when including lag and other real fire condition problems, but it should give you a base comparison for how things should act in the game.

(Off topic)
Ah... another artist like me... who hates charcoal. It's sticks to everything, smears easy (good and bad at the same time) and is just... blah. Give me Chalk Pastels any day and I'll take those over Charcoal. XP

Then again, my preferred medium is pencil, with maybe inks for a sharper line work if I wish. Decent with paints, and good with chalk, if I can stand the mess of it. Thankfully, all you need is water and chalk comes right on up. (Or digital for coloring works well too, but I need more practice.)

Sorry. I'm an art nut. :(

I run BAP, Advanced Sensor Range module full upgraded, ECM and 2 Streaks and 1 MDL, with a XL 210 Engine ( 136kph ). I also have Artemis. I think it comes standard on the 2D anyways so I leave it. Not sure if it's helping but sometimes I do switch out my Streaks for 1 SRM 6 and having Arty helps. This 2D Commando helps me to target guys pretty far off and lets the missile boats do their damage before I get into the fray.

Oh and the ECM covered mechs are well... covered but you would be surprised how many you can target if they don't stay grouped close enough for ECM cover. So I still find BAP useful.

Art. I hate charcoal. But this is the best thing I ever made out of it. Aside from a steak that tasted like charcoal.

Anyway it feels like someone is pushing my eyes out from the inside so I'll set about recording tomorrow.

My understanding of the Artemis and TAG bonus' for streaks is that they do exist, but they are not official. so it's in the category of YMMV. It will work for now, but if it goes back to normal that TAG and Artemis IV don't offer any bonus' for SSRM's that it shouldn't taken as a nerf but as a bug fix.

Just my $.02
