I don't know about Punkbuster anymore, I just remember it from SOF2. I was mainly using it as an example. It just erked me a little bit when I came over a hill and took an ac/20 round to the arm, which destroyed my arm and armaments, right torso and center torso. I lasted 1 min in game with no previous damage.

i have yet to see any hax, so the first step would be video evidence

I haven't seen them in use (though there was this one time... :) ) but someone posted a website where you can buy them. Looked legit.

After reading the Exploits/Hacks thread, I'm only curious. Why not implement a third party to regulate the hackers. Like Punkbuster for example. Only the account admin, in this case someone with MWO gaming, can access and alter the acceptable programs. I used to play a few different games with Punkbuster and it was a headache saver against those that would hack and dare call themselves gamers.... HACKERS SHOULD BE HIT WITH THE PERMA BAN HAMMER!!!! If they change IP or create a new account its simple. Report them to their ISP and have them block their transmissions to the MWO community. I used to be a GM for Age Of Armor, don't know if anyone remembers that game, but its what we used to do and we had a reasonable hack free inviroment.

Because in the real world, we don't punish the majority for what the tiny minority does.

An IP band is meaningless. Piranha can track a specific machines MAC address and all other machines the offending person has used in the pas and ban the MAC address. Effectively preventing the player from using that account and old PC's again. So if they want to hack, all they have to do is pluck down $150 for a new motherboard and get right back into the saddle. It will get old real fast for them.

I can change MAC without spending anything.

Well if the devs put in a penalty in cbills for headshots that would change things. After all according to the BT lore headshots are extremely frowned upon. :) I can see the forums drowning in tears if you lost cbills because you head shotted someone.

What? By whom? Squishy meat dead, valuable mech for almost intact salvage. That is good business.

Only clanners thought of it as dishonorable and in some matches on Solaris VII they were forbidden and could lead to disqualification.

Okay... your I bet your correct Egomane, I must be mixing up Clan 'fighting rules' along with Solaris VII appling to standard in the field Inner Sphere. That would be the best way for the IS to get hold of Clan mechs. I know when my friends I played the TT game we didn't worry about it.

Plus cockpits are easy to repair. A new seat and some one to scrape up the charred remains of the previous Mechwarrior.

So, skill or luck:

I was in two matches last night against the same team.

Every shot this one guy landed was 100% on target. AC/20 cat. Instant head-shot on one of our guys (both matches) at 300m or so. When he started shooting at me, every shot hit RT. On my centurion. Moving 90kph. Behind trees, at a range where thermal was blocked for both of us by trees.

Now, again, I'm not saying "that was an aimbot!" Just seemed wrong. Perception is reality. But don't immediately jump to that conclusion.

Hi. If your buddy was in a Catapult, that was me. No hacks, just way too much time playing Netmech/Mechwarriors.

It makes me sad how often I get accused of aimbotting. Tonight some kid said I was hacking because I used the Catapult's freaky torso twist to back-shoot him a second after he ran past me...

Its actually just the opposite. In the real world the majority must conform to the rules put in place because of the minority. Look at the gun ban we face now.
