Does it work?

I'm thinking of upgrading.

Any performance improvements?

What about other games and compatibility..........??? okay, mainly MWO!

Works fine here. I actually gained a few FPS upgrading from Vista. Friend of mine upgraded to 8 from XP and his framerates shot up from an average 8-10 (really old machine) to an average 15-25, and it significantly improved stability for him.

I had to install a offline version of direct x 9c before it would work. otherwise it works great.

The game works fine. Just don't click any links in the launcher e.g. "buy MC" or any ads because apparently the launcher doesn't know how to open links in a browser and simply crashes.

Works fine, no improvements in performance to speak of. But you will hate Metro without something like Start8 by Stardock. it's $5 and adds a start menu with the ability to boot straight into desktop. It keeps metro out of my way and is making me happy enough with 8 to consider getting a copy for my Desktop (Which is my primary gaming platform)

Windows 8 is not supported by MWO. It may work fine for some, but it's not officially "supported".

If you, and your friend, would have just upgraded to Windows 7, a few years ago, you'd have seen the same, or better, improvements then.

Windows8 is the "Windows ME" of this generation.

BTW, don't buy into the FUD about Metro. It's just a fullscreen start menu. Once customized it works great. The only thing wrong with Windows 8 is that the cool kids on the internet decided it's different and therefore sucks. (Not trying to start a pro/anti flamewar here.)

Classic shell is free and does the same thing as start8 if not better.

Ive used both and removed them as I prefer the metro start screen

Works fine for me, including links in launcher. I didn't have to do anything strange to get it working.

By the "cool kids on the Internet", you mean the thousands of businesses and their employees who refuse to upgrade to it, right? /snark

What are you upgrading it from? If your OS is XP, then it would be a huge improvement, personally speaking. On a dual boot setup, I get around 35-40FPS with XP, 55-60FPS with W8.

If you have W7, stick with it as there would only be a very minor difference. If Vista (shudders)...I would then And you can also take W7 for a trial run too, iirc.
