Mediums are getting some support tomorrow from the new 50-ton Trebuchet, bringing a little more speed and maneuverability to the field. As a predominantly medium pilot, I've been waiting for this pretty much since I started playing. I'll most likely be using the 7M (If it gets used as a variant), with its 3E 3M, 5JJ spreadout.

Things to note about the TBT:
Appears Missile and Laser dominant.
Some chassis have Jump Jets, allowing running jump-strikes, hop turns and high maneuverability.
Chassis generally carries larger engine size than Hunchbacks/Centurions, but variants will still (probably) be slower than the Cicada in most cases.
Larger engines + Jumpjets = Expect the FP to be more in line with (And plausibly lower than) Cicadas.
Largest engine-size Variant is the 3C, with the 5J/7M bearing jump systems. No variants appear to use ECMs.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I already have 15M Cbills and a $7 pack of MC set aside for this sucker. As soon as that patch is live, I'm throwing together a build and painting it in my typical, hideous camo scheme. Look for the ugly ******, I'll be seeing you guys in game!

According the to the current MW:O rules, the TBT-3C should have a max engine rating of 390, same as the CN9-D which also starts with a 300XL engine. All the other TBTs come with a 250 stock, which means a max of 325.

Cicada should be able to go the full 400, but is gimped by the over-arching speed wall which is still in effect, afaik.

I'm looking forward to the trebuchet since normally I pilot a light or an assault, few heavies and rarely any mediums inbetween. As of late I've been trying to come up with builds that are competitive in as many situations as possible, sounds good for me!

Yet another Mech people strap Streaks on.

"Hmm, which variant has the most missile hard points so I can put Streaks on it, yeh! Maybe one with ECM, so I can put Streaks with my ECM Dawg!"

Streaks seem like a waste of space to me. I'd much rather have the punch of SRM6's.

I pilot fast heavies and faster mediums.

So the trebuchet has been making me salivate since I tired of my cataphract.

Its all about how much speed and how many SRM6s can we fit....

Your "Jump to Conclusions" mat is pretty broken there bud. We're all going to be building high speed srm6 boats, just like the 4SPs of closed beta.

No ECM needed for a TBT.

Personally, I never take SRM6 (On small mechs.) Too much heat and ammo/equipment weight for too many missiles to miss. Assuming the build fits right, I'll be using SRM4+Artemis for all slots, and SSRM2s if they dont fit. (Unlikely).

So true.

Not exactly sure whether or not the any Treb can replace my 4SP though. Sure, I'd like it to go faster and/or jump, but I have no idea where to save tonnage. Why isn't it the Dervish instead  *pout*

Hah. Yeah. I'm sure this is how many people will be playing, but they will soon realize how bad an idea that is with this mech. Tall, wide torso and no shield arm. Plus extra gun weight will guaranteed be going towards JJs and max engines, and the fastest variant only has two missile hardpoints and no jets.

Agreed. Streaks have a use but too many use them as a crutch for an inability to aim. A well placed barrage of dual SRM6s will decimate any target and when you supplement them with some medium lasers you can wreak some terrible havoc.

I am very much looking forward to the Trebuchet, but with so very little official or confirmed information from PGI about it's weapon load out, hard points and engine speed I'm cautiously optimistic rather than totally stoked.

As a predominantly medium-inclined pilot I'm excited but I'm not optimistic. I think it's going to be a niche mech frankly. They're going to get pulverized by our current wave of cheese builds (Splatcat anyone?) more than most other mediums.
