Ok, I am an oldish fart. I have the reflexes and timing of a drunken 3 toed sloth on Nyquil....
Any others out there with slow reflexes, but enjoying the game anyway?

As someone with bad reflexes, I tend to do better with weapons that don't require a lot of aiming, or timing. For instance, auto cannons are pretty much useless in my hands ;) lol
Lasers are good, as are SSRMs. I can even do SRM's when presented with nice opportunities :)
LRMs are ok, but in the current environment, aren't much fun and tend to be a waste of tonnage for me.
Large lasers seem to be the best overall damage/range/heat/weight for me.

I also don't do as well with super fast mechs (though they are fun, I tend to break my own legs running into stuff!)

So far, my favorite builds generally have a speed between 70-120kph, use lasers/SSRMs/SRMs, and I tend to employ hit and run tactics.

I also do not really enjoy trying to aim arm mounted weapons independently of torso mounted. I would rather concentrate on keeping the aiming simple, so I can spend more thought on my movement and positioning.

So, my favorite frames are:
Catapult: Great frame for many different play styles. Aim point for most weapons are easy to figure out, and the superior torso twist means you can shoot on the run very nicely. Decent speed. My favorite frame overall.
Hunchback: Better speed than the cat, decent torso twist. Most variants have a good flexible weapons loadout.

Favorite builds:
Lasercat: catapult C1 with 3 LL, 2 SSRMs.

Lasercat is fast enough to get where its needed, and get out of trouble usually. Good sustained firepower. SSRMs are nice for non-ecm lights, and shooting through crowds. The cat's real good torso twist enables me to shoot well on the run. So far, this is my overall favorite mech.

Crunchy Hunchie: Hunchback 4sp, 5 ML's, 2 SRM6s

Fast enough to find trouble, and get out of it. Lasers for taking pot shots and general damage. SRMs for when the opponent does something stupid, like stand still or give his back to you. Lots of fun with this build!

What about the rest of you old farts, or just folks with slower reflexes, what do you like?

well it depends on the tonnage and role iam playing. but i prefer dedicated weapon systems. my all around faveriot is the Awesome. striaght out of the box with 3 ppc and the heat sinks to use them. i do switch out the small laser for .5 tones armor. out of the Lt mechs i like spiders and comandos. for the Md mechs griffon. Last the Hvy mechs, warhammer-D...i do like PPCs. like most mechs out of the box the warhammer is not optimized (do many weapons little armor) and requires tinkering to but her in her class.

How old?

I'm 43, and I have many favorites. This isn't really a twitch shooter so you can be effective with just about any mech once you get the hang of it. The important thing imo is finding a play style that suits you, then choosing a mech/loadout based on that play style.

My play style is straight up brawling and "hit and run" skirmishing, so I prefer Assaults, Mediums, and Heavies (in that order). The Awesome is my overall favorite assault. I divide my assault time between a Pretty Baby and a 9M. I have a couple of Atlases and Stalkers too, but the Awesomes are more fun to play.

Just have fun with it. The best thing about being a bit older than most is you have some life perspective. Some people have way too much emotional investment in how well they do at the game. Us old farts just don't give a crap.

I'm old enough to fondly remember playing the original Battletech pen & paper game.

Since I can't have my Rifleman, Marauder, or Battlemaster - I'll take my Atlas.
