I'm a bit worried about the Loyalty point and XP mechanics. It seems to me that a player who simply plays the game more often than their opponent will have the upper hand in a battle, even if the opponent is far more skilled. I think that the deciding factor in any competitive game should be skill, not time devotion. The details of how Loyalty points and XP are earned haven't been explained yet but I'm hoping that they will act as rewards to those who play skillfully, rather than be a result of high play time. I have similar concerns about the laddering system, specifically how players will be measured to accurately represent their skill and not their play time. I realize that devotion to the game should should be rewarded somehow, just not in a way that would give them too significant of an edge on the ladder or in combat. I think Starcraft II (the most popular RTS of all time) would be a good example of my point. Starcraft II's laddering system is designed to measure skill as accurately as possible. Along with a complex system of calculations to measure skill through gameplay, a bonus pool accumulates over time for players who don't play as frequently as others. The value of the bonus pool is then used in the calculations after a match to advance a player up the ladder at around the same rate as an equally skilled player who played more frequently. The game also has many achievements and rewards that are earned mainly through play time.

The choke point in the current MWO economy is CBills. CBills are used to purchase mechs, weapons, ammo, etc . . . pretty much everything in the game BESIDES AN EMPTY MECHBAY.

You will find that you accumulate CBills at a rate that you will be finished with the XP for a particular mech variant long before you have the CBills to buy the next.

Also the experience system isn't giving out anything huge. All of the bonuses from them are relatively minor from what I've noticed. Skill is a much bigger factor than EXP sunk into battlemech pilot talents. Sure that Jenner pilot you are chasing in your Jenner might have the slight speed increase talent, and you don't, but if he can't shake you and sucks at placing his shots...well then, he's dead Jim.

the bonuses are tiny, it's something like 2 to 5%, it's nice to have but not gamebreaking

Thanks very much for all the responses. I was actually modifying my post for quite a while and realized people had been responding to it the whole time only after I refreshed the page lol. I'm glad to hear that the bonuses aren't anything game changing. I've been a competitive Starcraft player and also a huge Mechwarrior fan for years and I was afraid that with all the reward mechanics that MWO is implementing that the game might not be able to match the competitive nature of other online competitive games. (P.S. As for liking my own post, I actually just wanted to see if it was possible ;) It's fixed now)

This isn't SC. Please don't compare its "competitive nature" to MWO. Its the whole apple and oranges thing...

Generally people who play a lot get good at games. Practice and all that.

Yeah what Solis said dude. WTF are you complaining about, really? Maybe you just think you're more "skilled" than you really are?

Skill matters TONS. If anything, I think the perks bought with XP are too small, since I don't even bother to buy them most of the time. I still kill plenty. I'd say Teamwork > Single Player Skill > Gains from time/$$ invested.

He's not in the beta, and has not played, as is evidenced by the fact that he doesn't know the amounts the experience skills give. So he wanted to know how much of an effect they would have, he's not complaining about losses or anything of the like, read the post more carefully instead of a quick skim :D

The bonus is small but does make a little bit of a difference, not enough to overcome lack of skill. Experience is awarded based on skill of the player also. The more things you do in a match the more exp you make.

EDIT: removed useless remarks and put in something that was worthwhile
