Are there any mechs (currently available) that can fill the role of an ambusher?

Nothing sneaks up and says hi like the SplatCat.

The Cent-A with 3xSRM6s does a nice job too. Basically anything that can move fast and boat SRMs.

Awesome 8R with 4xASRM6 and two LL, 8V with 3xASRM6 and a bunch of lasers.

But nothing beats a Splatcat.

"Splatcat" is the A1 6xSRM6 Catapult. Here is an example: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...3494c3e8580ef19.

Although it doesn't really have to be just SRMs. Mass Ultra AC/5 cannons can make for a really quick kill as well. 3 on an Ilya Muromets is a terror, if you can afford the MC. Double AC/20 builds, usually on a Cataphract, make for a nice "ambush" as well. Not as likely to do a lot of damage, but when it's all to the same spot, components can be destroyed really quickly.

Actually, there are no Phracts that can run 2xAC20s because at least on balistic is always in the arm. The only AC40 user right now is the Catapult-K2. Although the Jagermech next month (???) should be able to do it as well.

I use my 9M for this. It doesn't have the punch of a splatcat but it's faster and has more armor. And it doesn't run out of ammo. Not saying it's better though.. jumpjets make the spatcat more manoeuvrable in most maps I guess.

I'm curious though.. how many alphas does it take to overheat a splatcat?

Stalker 5M and Cat A1 are probably the best ambush predators.

you could even go with a CPLT C4 with 4x srm6's and a LPL also packs a good back stab punch

My Marmet runs twin AC10, twin LLAS for an alpha of 38. Is that a huge alpha, no. But if I can get in behind you, you are done in a few shots. Granted, you only get like 3 alphas before there is too much heat, but at that point if you are focusing on one spot (say a side torso) you can keep up your AC10 fire while you let the heatsinks do the job so you can bring the LLAS back into the fight.

I personally do not care for the UAC5 X3 build, but I do not have one of the crazy spiffy mouses that allow me to macro my firing. While others may feel that the jamming is not a problem if you just learn to use them, I prefer something that will reliably fire every time in the middle of a fight. I also use my arm movements a lot for firing on target and only having two of them able to fire off the middle is not that great, in my opinion.

I wish I could say to try out the various builds and see what works for you, but by the time you got all that done, the Jagermech would likely already be out, depending on how much you play and starting CBills.

My splatcat will enjoy consuming you alive at your stupid slow speeds.

It was a joke, you know? Because a 40-ton 'mech with 30 tons of weapon and a standard engine is just hilarious.
Like this. (rest of weight to ammo or armor)

I did run my 9 mlas HBK-4P as an ambusher at times. 45 pinpoint damage alpha at an unaware target is nothing to scoff at, especially if it hits the cockpit. :D

2 of those alphas will kill or bring ct to reddish on most mechs aswell.

Any mech that has a high alpha that isn't from LRMs/SSRMs be a good ambush mech.

DDC with ECM can easily flank an enemy, you need to be patient because your moving at 60kph. Also once you get behind the enemy, you need to turn to counter, so the guy doesn't see low signal on his minimap and maybe get smart to your position.

Mechs with a high damaging alpha, such as the before mention splatcat, a catapult armed with six srm6s. However other mechs are very capable of making a devastating ambush strike. Most of them are catapult configurations.

However with this new target warning the devs put in the game an honest ambush will be hard to come by.

actually that awesome beats the splat cat... on a regular basis. similar firepower but the cat doesn't have the chin to keep it up for long

WooT no one said the HBK-4SP how dare you all!

fantastic mech not the biggest Alpha and takes some skill as an ambusher but its worth
its weight in tonnage.
more of a whack them, duck and cover return for round 2 :)
