In that slow climb to 10 million C-Bills I've begun to wonder if the Atlas is the best available mech for an autocannon platform; it's slow.
If you were to outfit a mech with emphasis on using autocannons, which mech would you choose? Has anybody had a particularly good or bad expereince doing such? Can any mech hold, say, two AC 20s and use them effectively?
Also tips on how to fight using autocannons would be appreciated. Thanks!

The K2 is the most versatile for dual AC, its the only mech that can take 2 AC20s effectively. If you want to boat smaller caliber the cataphracts are better because of their hardpoints and location. Atlas ballistic points are always in the same torso, so you cannot put two large caliber on it. That being said, a gauss and an ac2 will fit, and is pretty good, if you insist on 2 ballistics on the atlas. You can do it with AC 20 as well, but a bit less synergy with those two.

Autocannon platforms- probably the Cataphract 4X or the Ilya Muromets. The CTX-3D can also loadout two big guns.

Catapult K2's can also fit dual any sort of AC in their tiny torso machine gun slots. Often you see gausscats and AC20 cats.

I cant believe I am recommending this, but the Catapult-k2 is what you want if you are going to mount dual AC/20s. The Cataphract is a good ballistic platform if you prefer sustained DPS over alpha damage and the Jaegermech (scheduled to be released next month) is supposed to be a good ballistic platform as well.

I am quite fond of my 82kph UltraCat XL with 4 ML. Still saving to try the 4x though

As said above depends on what you wanna mount.

multiple ac/20? cat/k2

2 gauss? k2 or most phract variants

smaller ac's (5 and under)gets more into phracts + dd-c's and and some dragons

Dont like the phract 4x, 4 ballistics but having all of them in the arms is quite constrictive unless you feel like mixing in ac/2's

Went with the K2. Didn't have the heart to take off enough armor to mount two AC20's, so I did one and an LBX10, CASE for the ammo. WOW! It's working great for me!
Thanks all for the advice... never thought I'd actually like the Catapult.

For a big ballistics build it's the engine that needs to be sacrificed, not the already weak armour.

K2 can't fit AC/20's in those small little barrels! look ..look inside the barrels and look closer..come on look closer ,do you see any big ol AC/20 casiings in there..come on a lil closer..

Ilya Muromets - AC 5 / 2 / 10 / UAC 5 set ups - only mech with 3 valid ac type hardpoints (non-ac20).
