Their is a period of time in the night where its hard to find 8mans.
This isnt anything new, 8mans are by nature a smaller group so when you hit the right time zones its near impossible to get a drop, and then people stop trying to find a match increasing the problem.

Make sure you have the game mode filter set to "any." All I know is until they put a total weight restriction on the 8 mans my corp will continue with non sinc 4 mans.

considering there were a number of "failed to find match" and playing the same few teams at least 3 times in a row.... yeah probably

The only time I did an 8 man was on double XP weekend, and we played the same 2 other 8 man groups playing. If we missed a launch, we didn't play until the others were done.
Considering that was probably the heaviest played weekend in recent history, and there were only 3 total 8 man groups... what does that say about either the population of the game, or the validity of 8 mans?
We eventually gave up and did 4 man sync drops instead...

Quoted for posterity. As for the validity of 8mans, it's hard to say anything until PGI adds weight balancing. Most actually good teams treat them as practice games for more serious, scheduled games with other units or things like RHOD, so you can potentially encounter good teams running experimental loadouts or strategies, that can backfire on them and give you an undeserved win.
We usually play 8mans just for fun with a group cobbled together from random players without any skill level entry requirements: some may be veterans, some may be complete newbies.
