So, like the rest of you, I plan on spending the next 8-10 months getting blisters on my fingers with these forum threads, dev suggestions and and game speculation. I was so excited by the MWO announcement I actually shouted in my office at work when I read the first sentence.

Now, I sure many/most of you were a bit dissappointed to hear MW5/Reboot would never come to pass. At least not with this itteration. But, even when we all first saw the 2009 trailer (in all it's epic-ness) my very next thought was, and has been for years, why not an MMO? Nothing would lend itself so naturally to fleshing out a "persistant" world better than the BT license with it's sorites, campaigns and continual House struggle for Inner Sphere domination, amarite?

So, now we know what we will be given is essentially Battlefield/Call of Duty(I hate to use MW abbreviation for anything other than mechwarrior) with mechs...AND with persistant universe where regions/planets can be captured and held. Sounds great yes? All that mech-ie action we all love with rewards for our efforts. ACTUAL military/poloitical rewards! Not just a new bayonet for my M-16, etc.

But (finally getting to the point here) what about .....after? What are their long term plans? I know they plan on realtime persistence. That sounds great. I know we will be able to grab and hold and progress across the realms. Awesome. But, is that all? I don't think anyone is so shortsighted as to think a MechCompany (read: guild) could take the WHOLE THING. I speculate they will allow rewards with ebb and flow but within the confines to some degree of the existing cannon.

I love sims, esp. MECH sims. But, it's like eatting too much of your favorite food. I can only eat so much Creme Brule' before I need a salad. If the game is successful financially, great. But to do that, it HAS toi keep players interested. Will MECH combat/conquest be enough for you? Is PVP your lifesblood?

I personally would P2P this game or in the F2P concept eagerly hand over hard earned dollars for in game "luxuries" such as out-of-mech experiences. Roles. Mechanic, Medic, Politcal operative, Spy, Engineer, Research Scientist, COMSTAR Agent, etc. I just think it would help break up the one-dimentional-ness of ALL Combat, ALL THE TIME. As a wow player, and even looking back to MW1 I truly appreciate what the non-combat parts (downtime, support roles, crafting, politics, mechlab, etc) all add to further immersion one into a game world.

Ok, rambling here. Maybe I should post over in SUGGESTION forums.

But, what do you guys think? Would you like to see additional layers eventually added to the game?

Blackwidow out.

I want to develop my mechwarrior. I want lobby and gathering areas where you can go between matches or your lance can have meetings. I'd like to be able to learn to repair my own mech.

The BT board game worked well alongside the mechwarrior RPG books. I don't see why they couldn't do the same here. The game world is too rich to not let us spend a bit of time exploring those other aspects.

I'm hoping this can bring my old tabletop group back together.

Maybe we can reskin our self destruct button....to 'send help' :)

Politics are always interesting, but I'm not going to pick that option when it's lumped in with crafting. Ugh.

I'm here to fight, not sew costumes.

I want a game that will alienate the most undesirable aspects of the Battletech/Mechwarrior fandumb (yes i am going there) to me.

The constantly nitpicking ones who constantly bicker that the game isn't loyal to the tabletop game who fail to realize that no video game adaptation can be 100% loyal to the tabletop game.

I'm all for having extra goodies but let the devs get the base game working first. Nothing will kill it faster than trying to make it do everything. I think full-on RPG features would probably take too much away from the efforts of making the combat sim part excellent. If there's anything that should be added first after getting that all running great though, I'd say it should be the logistical aspects of running a merc unit, since that seems to be where they're going with this. I'd love to be able to build up a persistent unit over the course of the game, as I earn more c-bills from successful contracts. New mechs, upgrades, support artillery, calling in airstrikes, dropships, etc.

Im all for the above, minus the crafting, well,as long as its not stupid. I think it should be,I have the parts,I can make it.

But make the game work first then lets get the tidbits.

The tabletop game isn't worth being loyal to either, it's a very poorly balanced game.

Absolut!

Its MECH+WARRIOR.

We get Mechs, now where's that freakin' Warrior?
RPG stats, a pilot figure - yes even cloth- or none :)
Something we can identify with.
We need things like - you already take this road- money to make,
Honor we can gain on the battle field, build up our reputation based on what we achieve.

Long, long time ago...
Just started to feel nostalgia creeping up here, oh well!

Skimming through the old topics, for me, MWO 's shaping up quite good IMO.
The Defs do listen to us, kudos to PGI! NO, avatars right yet, but they show up eventually.
