I got (free! wooo!) a Age of Destruction starter kit, 3 booster packs and something from vengence (I think that's what he said, expansion packs?) being sent to me. Now I know it's different than the old BT TT games, but is it still fun and/or even played anymore? I figure if nothing else -- free minis'

Friend of mine who has collected WH40K stuff for years (I still have like 10,000pts worth...sheesh!) is sending these over to me from one of his store closings. He never played it either, so I have like zero info,

This line has pretty much died quite a while ago, the old TT rules got refurbished and are still in use.
Besides, we'll be moving to 3250 next year to leave the Dark Age era behind.

http://bg.battletech.com/?page_id=474 - Era Report 3145 sounds really interesting.

I'm personally interested in TRO3145 to see how they made those Dark Age designs useful again.

Do we know anything so far about 3250?

We only know that they will introduce a new techbase (making even Clan tech obsolete).

I hope they manage to use this opportunity to fix the balance so you don't need something like battle value. (Or at least do it in such a careful manner that battle value works better from the start.)

Yeah the Wizkids Clix game had more of a short lived cult following than the origional BT TT, I still have approx a small galaxy of Clan Nova Cat mechs from the Clix game but Wizkids went under a few years ago and couldnt get another license or something along those lines when they reformed. I personally enjoyed it, but then again I grew up on MW3 and never played the original TT game as I was very young at the time, 8-15 and didnt have the money/time/skill to buy build and paint the BT TT minis.

I was not a fan of the Clix game. But, I did like the minitures. I bought a couple of them.

So I got the set and like 4 boosters up and running last weekend. My 5 year old kicked the crap put of me (her dice rolls are borderline impossible...). We had fun, she made the pew pew noises for great effect. The mini's are great! I repainted two of the tanks with better paint than OEM, they *really* stand out. Too bad the game is dead, it was pretty strait forward and kinda fun to play. I'll probably collect a few specific mech/tank configs for my shelf just to have them.

There was a Third League turning points campaign book released, only got a glance inside, saw something abaout the Wolfhound Clan defense cordon and St. Ives in 3227. That is all my know, I had an immediate 'ugh dont like the look of that' reaction to it but given my lack of knowledge about it that doesn't really mean anything.

Despite a shaky start by the time I had finished reading all the DA novels I was really enjoying it. Shame they just stopped dead with so many story lines and plot threads dangling loose all over the place. Hope they give it a proper round up in ER3145 if no more novels and not lip service to get it out of the way. Maybe it was not the greatest direction to go but there is still plenty of potential.

I was a found of the game,it had it's issues,bu still enjoyed it. Still have complete sets of the Ghost Bears,Nonacarts/spirit cats, and Swordsworn/Davions. A bunch of LE's and some regular other units and a dropship. there was another post open about this somewhere. Good thing is just play with any rules you want and still enjoy it as any other game.

Seems to me that stuff like the Dark Ages could be fun in a Mechwarrior RPG setting but for just straight TT, 3025, 2750, or 3050 is best.

We've had a ton of fun with it thus far. I've picked up bunches of booster packs extremely cheap. Even sold a few of the LE's I found, made up for my entire lot purchase

Just picked up heavy gear blitz too. Mini's look damn good.
