Hi there,

I would like to hear/read your opinion about running a Commando with an XXL or a standard engine. So far I always preferred standard engines as it would increase my survivability. But since last patch I tend to die rather quickly if I get into close combat with lots of mechs, the armor gets stripped like nothing. And therefore I wonder if the benefit of a compact standard engine is still apparent or if it would make more sense to go for the speed boost by replacing the standard with a larger XXL engine and risk to die by a left/right torso hit.

With a commando you shouldn't get

I can fit ES, SSRM6, DHS, ML with 200xl. You are gonna have to give up something good for a std.

XL you mean, XXL Engines are insane.


Yes use an XL, stop standing still trying to line up shots. (Too many "pinata" light pilots)
Get a Cicada/Raven if you can't stand being so easy to kill.

No, I will not get anything else. I love my Commandos! And yes I should not get into close combat, but it happens.

And yeah, I meant XL engines, hehe. I am surprised that the opinion is so uniform. I remember back in closed beta it was not. Thanks for your replies.

The Commando does not have the armor to take hits - if they want to kill you they can do it quickly whether you have a standard or XL - so there is little downside to getting the XL, and lots of weight benefits.

XL engine it is. eitehr a 195, what is the standard for commandos, or if you want to go max a 210.
everything else on a com is basically crap
